We had such a great day exploring everything Oz, that I thought I’d show you all the new fun you can expect if you too follow the Yellow Brick Road into Movie World’s brand-new Wizard of Oz Precinct!

The world-first The Wizard Of Oz theme park precinct is now open at Warner Bros Movie World on the Gold Coast!

How do you get to The Wizard Of Oz area inside Movie World?

How do you get to The Wizard Of Oz area inside Movie World? Why, you follow the yellow brick road of course!

After entering Movie World, head to the left side of the golden Bugs Bunny central fountain towards the Super Man Coaster. You’ll see the Wizard Of Oz Character statues marking the beginning of the Yellow Brick Road to Oz. This is where your journey begins – plus you can get your best Wizard Of Oz family photo or Instagram photo ever!

It’s time to “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” through the rainbow tunnel to emerge into the land of Oz, and the Emerald City – skipping and singing is optional!

Step back in time to the original Wizard of Oz film set

Prepare to be delighted with the overall impact of the multi-million-dollar, immersive Wizard Of Oz precinct. From the charming, tiny Munchkin houses, to the grandeur of the emerald-green palace of the great and powerful Oz, it’s just like stepping into the classic film!

The attention to detail of the outside Wizard Of Oz area alone is enough to make you wonder – what lies within the palace? Excitingly you get to find out, as this is where the themed paths to both of the new Wizard Of Oz ride’s begin! All you need to do, is step through the sliding double doors…

What are the Wizard Of Oz rides like?

The new Wizard of Oz rides are the perfect mix of thrills and fun! There’s not one, but two brand new rides inside the Movie World The Wizard Of Oz area – best of all they are both family-friendly so that everyone gets to experience the fun!

When you step inside the Emerald Palace you enter a large chamber where you find yourself facing the Great and Powerful Oz himself! Or at least, just like in the movie, it’s the mysterious machination of him!

As the Wizard imperiously demands to know who you are, the walls show flash-back scenes of Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion during their journey along the Yellow Brick Road.

Just like in the movie, the experience really is like the classic film is being brought to life right before your eyes!

Then it’s time to choose a left or right path – each side offers a different ride – which will you pick first?!

How do you get to the Flight of the Wicked Witch ride?

The path to the Flight of the Wicked Witch is your very own incredible journey through the Land Of Oz.

Walk through the enchanted field of eerily lit red poppies watched over by the Wicked Witch herself, casting sleeping spells over her crystal ball along the way. Try not to fall asleep!

Once you make it through the poppies you pass by a cranky apple tree – you’ve wandered into the Haunted Forest from the movie!

Follow the winding path along and out until you find yourself at the Flight of the Wicked Witch coaster!

What is it like to ride the Flight of the Wicked Witch coaster?

The blue and red Wicked Witch Coaster slowly ascends to a 19.3 metre height before taking you on an exciting “flight” of up to 67km per hour through twists and turns as you hang suspended underneath – now that’s wickedly good fun coaster!

Can kids ride the Flight Of The Wicked Witch coaster?

Yes! All the family can ride The Flight Of The Wicked Witch coaster with kids as little as 105cm tall being able to ride along with an adult.

After The Flight of the Wicked Witch we were so ready to jump back in to the Emerald Palace to take the path to the second brand new Wizard of Oz ride at Movie World – the Kansas Twister!

How do you get to the Kansas Twister ride?

As you walk along the path to the Kansas Twister ride you become aware of a noise building – it’s a tornado! You actually get to pass through the inside of the sepia toned (black and white old movie style) Dorothy’s farmhouse, complete with period furniture, swinging lights and of course a tornado raging outside! What an amazing experience!

Continue on outside to find yourself passing through fields of corn in the Kansas farmlands on the way to a huge barn – is that a tornado-flung cow on top?! Enter the barn and climb aboard your farm tractor carriage to ride the Kansas Twister!

What is riding The Kansas Twister like?

The Kansas Twister is actually two side-by-side racing roller coasters. Reaching heights of 22 metres, the two coasters boomerang up and back along the tracks at speeds as fast as 58 kilometres per hour – it’s breathtakingly good fun!

Can kids ride the Kansas Twister coaster?

Yes! Very family friendly, the Kansas Twister coaster allows kids as young as 3 years old and 95cm minimum height to ride if accompanied by an adult.

Wizard Of Oz Shows and Characters

Be sure not to miss the Wizard Of Oz precinct daily shows! We got to see the beautiful Glinda The Good Witch singing as we emerged from the rides. Later in the day we returned to see Dorothy singing Somewhere Over The Rainbow – it was so magical, and a must for Wizard Of Oz fans!

Where can you meet the Wizard Of Oz Characters?

You even get to meet The Wizard Of Oz Characters in person! They appear at different times throughout the day inside the Wizard Of Oz precinct. There you can meet and take photos with them. We loved meeting Glinda the Good Witch and Dorothy! We even heard the Wicked Witch was lurking around somewhere…

Movie World Main Street additions

We left the Wizard Of Oz precinct to venture down Movie World Main Street and discovered still-more Wizard Of Oz delights!

Wizard Of Oz 4-D Experience – now showing at the Roxy Cinema

The Wizard Of Oz movie first played in Cinemas in 1936 and is now revisited at Warner Bros Movie World!

The Movie World Roxy Cinema has a Wizard Of Oz 4-D Experience feature showing right now, and it’s the perfectly condensed version of the original movie. The fact that is shown in 4-D is such a bonus! With several showtimes each day, all the best parts of the film are included to help introduce newbies to the story, and also let fans relive this wonderful classic film once again.

The Wizard Of Oz 4-D Experience attraction would make for the perfect start or end to your Movie World Wizard Of Oz visit.

Wizard Of Oz Snacks

Try these Wizard Of Oz Signature Drinks!

Not only did we find rainbow lollypops in the Wizard of Oz gift store on Main Street, we were excited to find that there are also two delicious new Wizard Of Oz signature themed drinks available at the nearby cafe too!

The Tin Heart Delight themed drink

The Tin Heart Delight is priced at $8 and is a delicious chocolate drink topped with whipped cream, silver “tin” sprinkles and a red foil covered chocolate heart. It’s described as “a decadent blend of smooth chocolate and raspberry topped with a sweet heart symbolising the Tin Man’s wish”. One serving suggestion is to add coffee for a bold twist for an extra $1. We also bought a special Dorothy character straw for an extra $3 as a take-home souvenir – adorable!

The Kansas Caramel Swirl themed drink

The Kansas Caramel Swirl is priced at $8 and is a scrumptious caramel drink topped with whipped cream and candy corn. It’s described as “dreamy caramel frappe topped with a sprinkle of candy corn magic”. An extra serving suggestion is to add an espresso shot for $1. We also bought a special Tin Man character straw for an extra $3 as a take-home souvenir – so cute!

Where can I buy Wizard Of Oz Merchandise?

The dedicated Wizard Of Oz gift shop is something for fans to get very excited about! The most amazing Wizard Of Oz collection of trinkets, gifts, clothing and everything in between are inside for purchase!

Wonderful character jackets (including a fabulous Wicked Witch of the West one!), t-shirts, caps, capes, ornaments, bags – there was even a perfect replica of the Wicked Witch of the West’s Hourglass from the film for sale!

There’s something perfect inside the Wizard Of Oz shop for everyone to take home a unique souvenir of their own visit to Movie World’s Wizard Of Oz land.

We had such a fun time exploring the new The Wizard of Oz area at Warner Bros Movie World. Best of all, we made some wonderful new family holiday memories together – we truly can’t wait to return to the Gold Coast to do it all again!

Where can you stay close to the theme parks on the Gold Coast?

We loved staying at the Big4 Gold Coast Holiday Park, and it’s located just five minutes drive from Movie World.
