Disney Sea – Journey to the Center of the Earth Ride
Moving to Tokyo Disneyland’s next-door neighbour park, Disney Sea now for an honorable ride mention!
A brilliantly original DisneySea ride, the Journey to the Center of the Earth ride is based on Jules Verne’s novel of the same name.
A dark ride with scary themes, Journey to the Centre of the Earth is set deep within the huge central volcano of Disney Sea. The ride is both terrifying and exhilarating at the same time.
If you listen carefully upon entering DisneySea you can even hear the screams from this ride on the other side of the park as the unwitting occupants emerge for just a moment up near the top of the volcano!
What is the Tokyo Disney Journey to the Center of the Earth ride like?
After riding a themed elevator you board your rusty “steam” carriage and slowly head off.
The way this ride lulls you into a false sense of security at the beginning as you travel along the dimly lit crystal caverns is masterful.
As tension builds, there’s an epic plot twist when you come upon the confronting lava monster bellowing at you halfway through. Without warning you your carriage takes off at a million miles an hour upward, towards the heavens – or at least it seems that way! There’s a lovely momentary view from where you emerge at the top if you can prise your eyes open!
Your heart will still be in your mouth when the carriage sedately pulls up at the end of the ride. Riders tumble out gasping and laughing with relief it’s over – ready to line up for another turn!
