<p>We were asked to test run the Messy Weekend snow goggles range, and were very impressed with the incredible snow-vision qualities of this oh-so-stylish European designer &#8211; plus we have a 15% off discount code for you!</p>

<h6 class="wp-block-heading"><i>This page contains affiliate links. If you purchase a product through one of them, I will receive a commission (at no additional cost to you). Thank you for your support!</i></h6>

<div>
<p>It’s no secret that our family are mad snow skiers. So when we were sent some Messy Weekend snow goggles, we were very keen to learn just how these scientifically designed beauties work!</p>
<p>There’s an awful lot of features that make these gorgeous Messy Weekend snow sports goggles stand out from the crowd &#8211; firstly, they are just stunning to look at. But of course, ski and snowboarding goggles aren’t just about the looks (although I must say, these goggles are fabulously stylish and cool!) &#8211; they are more importantly about&nbsp;how they handle the constantly changing visibility conditions to keep your vision the best it can possibly be on the mountain.</p>
<p>A huge feature that distinguishes MW from their competitors is the magnetic lenses.</p>
<p>One option new, cutting edge option is their photo chromatic, or a light-activated tint lense, which seamlessly transitions from ski slope to the Après ski café.</p>
</div>

<p>It would be fair to say that these goggles are SO scientifically superior in design overall, that they’re way too advanced for me to reliably talk about! &nbsp; So forgive me if I borrow a little bit from the messy weekend designers themselves&#8230;</p>

<div>
<h3>Magnetic construction</h3>
<p>Eight powerful magnets hold the goggle lenses securely in place. They form a tightly sealed environment, eliminating any chance of gaps occurring that might cause a change in vision. The logic behind the magnet technology is not simply that they fit perfectly, but also the ability to exchange using only one hand.</p>
<h3>The FLOAT II</h3>
<figure><a href="https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/8F26FAEB-CEC2-4F28-AFC5-0B8AC2992E7D.jpeg"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" src="https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/8F26FAEB-CEC2-4F28-AFC5-0B8AC2992E7D-1000x687.jpeg" alt="Float II ski goggles" width="1000" height="687"></a></figure><p></p>
<p>The FLOAT II snow goggles lenses are spherical in appearance and available in two different colour variations: the XE2 Green Revo and the XE2 Silver.</p>
<p>Taking a look at the exterior, you can see the frame is a lightweight thermoplastic polyurethane which is an extremely flexible and durable materials This is covered with a cutting-edge protective and insulating foam technology. The foam is triple layered and therefore provides an exceptionally comfortable fit. While being secure, the foam enables a pleasantly light airflow to prevent the fogging of the lenses and moisture-wicking.</p>
<h3>Accessories are included</h3>
<figure><a href="https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/6DCC1BC4-8318-4A28-B928-D14AB55E7E82.jpeg"><img decoding="async" src="https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/6DCC1BC4-8318-4A28-B928-D14AB55E7E82-1000x687.jpeg" alt="Messy Weekend goggle accessories " width="1000" height="687"></a></figure><p></p>
<p>Each pair of goggles has an assortment of additional items including: a yellow overcast lense which provides greater distinction and clarity, a microfiber bag to ensure safer scratch-free protection, a stylish MessyWeekend sticker and a hard case for safe storage and transport enabling all your hurtling-down-a-mountain needs.</p>
<h3>ACHTON</h3>
<figure><a href="https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/0E590888-6993-4996-8359-1FCBE9351A65.jpeg"><img decoding="async" src="https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/0E590888-6993-4996-8359-1FCBE9351A65.jpeg" alt="Messy Weekend ACHTON snow goggles" width="700" height="700"></a></figure><p></p>
<p>The name ACHTON originates from the Danish arctic explorer: Achton Friis who was one of the original trailblazers on the Denmark Expedition to Northeast Greenland in the early 20th century.</p>
<p>In comparison to the FLOAT II, the ACHTON lenses are cylindrically shaped which provides a greatly enhanced peripheral field overview. The shape of the lenses improves the individuals’ field of view by 18% compared to the FLOAT II and most other snow goggles.</p>
<p>The lenses are available in three different colour variations: XE2 Green Revo, XE2 Silver and the newest update XEp photochromic.</p>
<p>The Float II has similar features as the ACHTON frame &#8211; covered with the same lightweight thermoplastic polyurethane foam.</p>
<p>All of the same exciting additional extras are provided with the ACHTON.</p>
<h3>Further in-depth information about MW goggle lenses</h3>
<figure><a href="https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/CCC14E8E-EF90-49DE-9037-8BE307482FE0.jpeg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/CCC14E8E-EF90-49DE-9037-8BE307482FE0-1000x687.jpeg" alt="XE2 Messy Weekend lenses" width="1000" height="687"></a></figure><p></p>
<h4>Messy Weekend XE2 goggle lenses</h4>
<p>The XE2 dual-pane lenses ensure that there is minimal space between the panes which are filled with air-pockets that provide insulation from the cold, outside air and the body heat from inside.</p>
<p>The lenses are made from the highest Grade 1 polycarbonate optical quality which contributes to the practicality, durability and lightweight feel of the goggles.</p>
<p>THE XE2 lenses offer a purple base and with a high-contrast view. These different kinds of contrast maintain a higher visibility under all&nbsp;circumstances meaning sight in different weather conditions is a challenge the XE2 can handle with flawless ease, especially when it comes to snow activities.</p>
<p>The inside of the XE2 lenses has an anti-fog coating that provides clear eye vision in wetter conditions. When combined with the ventilation system; picturesque views are promised, even when it gets a little steamy.<br>
The outside is also coated with a nano-coating to maximize scratch resistance and a superhydrophobic coating brings valuable water repellency and in turn, an easy clean.</p>
<figure><a href="https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/8F26FAEB-CEC2-4F28-AFC5-0B8AC2992E7D.jpeg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/8F26FAEB-CEC2-4F28-AFC5-0B8AC2992E7D-1000x687.jpeg" alt="Float II Green Revo lenses ski goggles" width="1000" height="687"></a></figure><p></p>
<p>The Revo variation and the mirror surface coating technology were developed by NASA &#8211; it is the same technology astronauts use for solar protection &#8211; ensuring astronomical levels of protection.</p>
<p>Besides all the cool features they of course also block harmful blue light and cover the regular protection of full UV400 (UVA+UVB).</p>
<h4>Messy Weekend XEp goggle lenses</h4>
<figure><a href="https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/4C567D1B-B951-43A4-908A-39A62EFDD335.jpeg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/4C567D1B-B951-43A4-908A-39A62EFDD335-1000x687.jpeg" alt="Photo chromatic lenses" width="1000" height="687"></a></figure><p></p>
<p>The XEp lenses adapt to whatever weather conditions Mother Nature can throw at you and allow great sight on the mountain. The XEp lenses provide upgraded and enhanced versions of the same features as the XE2 lenses and therefore make them practically unbreakable.</p>
<p>The difference from the XE2 lenses is that the photochromic molecules included in the lenses are constantly adapting and recalibrating to light stimuli.</p>
<p>The photochromic molecules contain patented photochromic dyes which enable them to fully darken the lenses in under 25 seconds when introduced to powerful solar rays.</p>
<p>Even during that transition, a full UV400 protection can be guaranteed.</p>
<p>THE XEp is produced with a patented molded-in film technology that ensures perfect sight, uniformed color change and heavy weather resistance.&nbsp;Even with encountering a change in lighting, the tint of the goggles adapts perfectly.</p>
<h3>Clean Oceans Initiative</h3>
<figure><a href="https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/801F87EB-F2C6-4E53-91DF-DBD6EBFE447F.jpeg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/801F87EB-F2C6-4E53-91DF-DBD6EBFE447F-1000x750.jpeg" alt="Clean oceans initiative " width="1000" height="750"></a></figure><p></p>
<p>We especially love that this forward-thinking European eyewear company give back to the environment with every sale.</p>
<p>MessyWeekend partnered with the NGO 4THEPLANET to found the project &#8220;ORIGINES.&#8221;</p>
<p>The initiative is determined to design a sustainable method&nbsp;for the clean up of plastic waste in the Pacific Ocean. For every pair of MessyWeekend sunglasses and snow goggles sold, 2 kg (4.4 lbs) of trash is collected.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-6266" src="http://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/7247_JIR_210818_HC_07-1024x683.jpg" alt="Beginners guide to Falls Creek, Victoria" width="590" height="394" srcset="https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/7247_JIR_210818_HC_07.jpg 1024w, https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/7247_JIR_210818_HC_07-1000x667.jpg 1000w, https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/7247_JIR_210818_HC_07-768x512.jpg 768w, https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/7247_JIR_210818_HC_07-250x167.jpg 250w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 590px) 100vw, 590px" /></p>
<p>A trip to the Australian snowfields makes a great family holiday, but the thought of organising it all can seem a little overwhelming &#8211; especially if you&#8217;ve never been before! After all, you need to find somewhere family-budget friendly to stay, a way to feed everyone that doesn&#8217;t break the bank, waterproof clothes and snow gear for everyone, ski lessons and lift tickets&#8230;there&#8217;s so much to think about!</p>
<p>Actually, it&#8217;s a lot easier than it sounds &#8211; just follow our guide to the essentials for a parent-friendly, super-fun family trip to Falls Creek!</p>
<h2>Planning your holiday</h2>
<p><figure id="attachment_6262" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-6262" style="width: 590px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-6262 size-large" src="http://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/falls-creek-14-1024x768.jpg" alt="Falls Creek features a beautiful snowy village" width="590" height="443" srcset="https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/falls-creek-14.jpg 1024w, https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/falls-creek-14-1000x750.jpg 1000w, https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/falls-creek-14-768x576.jpg 768w, https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/falls-creek-14-250x188.jpg 250w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 590px) 100vw, 590px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-6262" class="wp-caption-text">Falls Creek features a beautiful snowy village</figcaption></figure></p>
<h3>How long should we visit Falls Creek?</h3>
<p>If you only plan on tobogganing or snow-shoeing and soaking up the general ski-life atmosphere in Falls Creek, a weekend away will be ample. But if you want you and/or the kids to learn how to ski or snowboard too, then five days to a week will have them (and you) flying down the slopes in no time!</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_6277" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-6277" style="width: 590px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-6277 size-large" src="http://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/IMG_2969-3-1024x768.jpg" alt="Kids learn quickly - after one day of ski school Brooke could ski down the mountain!" width="590" height="443" srcset="https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/IMG_2969-3-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/IMG_2969-3-1000x750.jpg 1000w, https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/IMG_2969-3-768x576.jpg 768w, https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/IMG_2969-3-250x188.jpg 250w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 590px) 100vw, 590px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-6277" class="wp-caption-text">Kids learn quickly &#8211; after one day of ski school Brooke could ski down the mountain!</figcaption></figure></p>
<h3>How do I get to Falls Creek?</h3>
<h3><span style="font-size: 16px;"><strong><span style="text-align: left; color: #333333; text-transform: none; line-height: 24px; text-indent: 0px; letter-spacing: normal; font-family: Georgia,'Times New Roman','Bitstream Charter',Times,serif; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; word-spacing: 0px; display: inline !important; white-space: normal; cursor: text; orphans: 2; float: none; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; background-color: transparent;"><span style="text-align: left; color: #333333; text-transform: none; line-height: 24px; text-indent: 0px; letter-spacing: normal; font-family: Georgia,'Times New Roman','Bitstream Charter',Times,serif; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; word-spacing: 0px; display: inline !important; white-space: normal; orphans: 2; float: none; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; background-color: transparent;">Traveling to Falls Creek from Melbourne</span></span></strong></span></h3>
<p>Driving by car is the most direct and cheapest way to get from Melbourne to Falls Creek, particularly for families. The drive from Melbourne will take you around four and a half hours. If you don&#8217;t want to drive, there is always the option of taking a coach.</p>
<h3><span style="font-size: 16px;"><strong><span style="text-align: left; color: #333333; text-transform: none; line-height: 24px; text-indent: 0px; letter-spacing: normal; font-family: Georgia,'Times New Roman','Bitstream Charter',Times,serif; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; word-spacing: 0px; display: inline !important; white-space: normal; cursor: text; orphans: 2; float: none; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; background-color: transparent;"><span style="text-align: left; color: #333333; text-transform: none; line-height: 24px; text-indent: 0px; letter-spacing: normal; font-family: Georgia,'Times New Roman','Bitstream Charter',Times,serif; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; word-spacing: 0px; display: inline !important; white-space: normal; orphans: 2; float: none; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; background-color: transparent;">A word about Snow chains</span></span></strong></span></h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-6263" src="http://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/falls-creek-15.jpg" alt="Snow chains" width="580" height="326" srcset="https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/falls-creek-15.jpg 959w, https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/falls-creek-15-768x432.jpg 768w, https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/falls-creek-15-250x141.jpg 250w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px" /></p>
<p>If you do decide to drive, you&#8217;ll need to hire some snow chains for your car &#8211; it&#8217;s mandatory to carry them with you in the Victorian snowfields in winter, and if you get caught without them you&#8217;ll be fined. They can be hired from most ski shops in Mount Beauty (and Bright), before you start the drive up the mountain. During busy periods they may run short of your wheel size, so it&#8217;s sensible to call ahead and book.</p>
<p>If it snows, you&#8217;ll need to fit the snow chains to the driving wheels of your car. Don&#8217;t worry, the hire shop will give you a quick lesson on how to fit your snow chains, and signs on the hill tell you exactly when and where to fit them if necessary.</p>
<h3><span style="font-size: 16px;"><strong><span style="text-align: left; color: #333333; text-transform: none; line-height: 24px; text-indent: 0px; letter-spacing: normal; font-family: Georgia,'Times New Roman','Bitstream Charter',Times,serif; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; word-spacing: 0px; display: inline !important; white-space: normal; cursor: text; orphans: 2; float: none; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; background-color: transparent;"><span style="text-align: left; color: #333333; text-transform: none; line-height: 24px; text-indent: 0px; letter-spacing: normal; font-family: Georgia,'Times New Roman','Bitstream Charter',Times,serif; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; word-spacing: 0px; display: inline !important; white-space: normal; orphans: 2; float: none; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; background-color: transparent;">Traveling to Falls Creek from Sydney or other interstate locations</span></span></strong></span></h3>
<p>Driving from Sydney to Falls Creek will take you nine hours, Canberra five and a half hours and Adelaide a considerable thirteen hours. Flying to Albury airport (located on the NSW and Victorian border) and then catching a bus will save a lot of driving time. For example, from Sydney to Falls Creek via air takes around three and a half hours all-up (including airport transfers).</p>

<h3>Outfitting the family &#8211; what snow gear you should hire &#8211; &amp; what you need to buy!</h3>
<p>Before stepping onto that cold white fluffy stuff, you&#8217;re going to need to hire or buy wet weather gear for the family. Ski clothes (waterproof pants and jackets) can be hired at Mount Beauty (or Bright, if you&#8217;re coming from that direction) ski shops on the way, or from a few smaller shops dotted around Falls Creek.</p>
<p>No matter what you are doing at the snow, you will need to purchase your own ski goggles (sunglasses will do in fine weather), and also waterproof gloves. Don&#8217;t forget the sunscreen too &#8211; it&#8217;s very easy to burn up on the mountain with all that glaring white snow around!</p>

<p>Learning to cross country ski, or going for a snow-shoe walk are beautiful ways to explore the Victorian snowfields without having to worry about a lift-ticket purchase. This is because you can &#8220;walk&#8221; or skate uphill on your skis! Making your own way around the numerous trails is a great way to appreciate the stunning snowy alpine flora and fauna of the area &#8211; and escape the downhill skiing crowded runs! <p>If you&#8217;d like to give downhill skiing or snowboarding a try, Falls Creek main village is the place to be. You&#8217;ll need a lift ticket and ski lesson package to get you started, plus you&#8217;ll need to outfit everyone in downhill boots, skis and poles and a helmet. You&#8217;ll find all of these at Homebase, which is located right at the front entrance to Falls Creek Village, next door to the QT hotel.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_6264" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-6264" style="width: 580px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-6264" src="http://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/falls-creek-10-1.jpg" alt="Fitting downhill boots and skis at Homebase, Falls Creek" width="580" height="426" srcset="https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/falls-creek-10-1.jpg 929w, https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/falls-creek-10-1-768x565.jpg 768w, https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/falls-creek-10-1-250x184.jpg 250w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-6264" class="wp-caption-text">Fitting downhill boots and skis at Homebase, Falls Creek</figcaption></figure></p>

<p>Ski school is held up on the mountain, which is accessed via the main Halley&#8217;s Comet chair lift at Falls Creek Village. Don&#8217;t be worried about catching a chair lift. You don&#8217;t have to ski onto it, and can walk on carrying any skis with you. Sit back, and enjoy the ride!</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re not skiing or don&#8217;t have a ski pass, catching Halley&#8217;s Comet chairlift is still no problem. Parents are allowed to catch the chair lift up for free to take their kids up to ski school, and of course to pick them up later.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_6261" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-6261" style="width: 590px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-large wp-image-6261" src="http://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/falls-creek-13-1024x768.jpg" alt="The Halleys Comet chairlift will take you to Ski School" width="590" height="443" srcset="https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/falls-creek-13.jpg 1024w, https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/falls-creek-13-1000x750.jpg 1000w, https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/falls-creek-13-768x576.jpg 768w, https://letsgomum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/falls-creek-13-250x188.jpg 250w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 590px) 100vw, 590px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-6261" class="wp-caption-text">The Halleys Comet chairlift will take you to Ski School</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>Downhill or Snowboard Ski School for kids starts at 10am and goes to 3pm, leaving parents time to have their own adult ski lessons, or just go for a ski. Ski school provides a hot lunch for the kids too, so you really do get a few solid hours of me-time!</p>
<p>Ski School (or Junior Workshops, as they are also known) is expensive at around $250 per child per day (including hire gear), but is also a very fast way to teach the kids how to ski or snowboard. Half-day ski school is available for younger children.</p>
<p>For the littlies, (babies from 12 weeks old, up to 5yos) day care is also available, located at the bottom of the chair lift at Falls Creek Village.</p>
<h3>Tobogganing and snow play</h3>

<p>Windy Corner, Falls Creek is also the place for some traditional family snow fun. Located next door to Windy Corner is a large family snow-play area, so Toboggans and Apre Ski (waterproof rubber) boots can be hired here too.</p>
<p>Slide down the hill on your toboggan in the family fun area, build a snowman together &#8211; you can even have a good old-fashioned snowball fight! Sometimes the simple things in life make the best family memories!</p>
<h2>You&#8217;re all set &#8211; time to get booking!</h2>
<p>So there you have it! You&#8217;re now all set for an awesome family snow and skiing holiday. But a gentle heads-up &#8211;  the skiing bug does tend to bite hard, and you may find that you have a family of super-keen skiers on your hands. This first family ski trip may well be just the start of many fun family snow holidays together &#8211; have a wonderful time!</p>
