In Australia (and many other countries around the world) you can also buy your Disneyland Resort theme park tickets direct from a travel agent in your country, but you will be paying a premium. A travel agent can also include tickets in a Disneyland holiday package.

Which Disneyland tickets should I choose?

Disneyland Resort Multi-day tickets are the best choice if you’ve never been to Disneyland before.

Tickets are available singly into either theme park, or Disneyland Resort Park Hopper tickets allows you to cross between the two theme parks during the same visit. It’s simply a matter of walking across from one park to the other. It’s best to allow at least three days to cover both parks. Five or seven days are even better! Multi-day tickets and Park Hopper tickets can be great way to enjoy the two California Disney Resort parks.

What is Disneyland Lightning Lane?

Disneyland Lightning lane is the current name for the Disneyland ride queue fast lane. A Lightning Lane pass allows you to bypass the long ride queues to go straight to the front of the queue.

There are two versions of Lightning Lane passes to choose from.

The Lightning Lane Multi Pass, and the Lightning Lane Single Pass.

What is the difference between Disney Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass?

Formally known as Disneyland Fast Pass and Disney Genie, there are now two new Disney Lightning Lane systems – here’s the simple explanation of how they work. Remember, you must have a valid Disneyland day ticket and park reservation first!

How does Lightning Lane Multi Pass work?

1. For several selected rides at Disneyland and California Adventure
2. For one use per ride
3. Book the next available ride window
4. Get free Disneyland photo benefits
5. Buy either in advance (can buy from Klook) or in the park, but limited availability

How does Lightning Lane Single Pass work?

1. For the following two rides only:
   1. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance in Disneyland
   2. Radiator Springs Racers in California Adventure
2. Both of the above 2 rides are not included in the Lightning Lane Multi Pass
3. Use one time only on one ride
4. Book the next available ride window
5. Buy once you are inside the theme park using the Disneyland app (if available)
6. You can buy both if you like, but only one per ride is allowed per day.

Is Disney Lightning Lane worth it?

Yes! One thing is for certain – your Disneyland time is precious – and valuable. You may have traveled half-way around the world to visit Disneyland. You need to make the most of your time whilst you are there – this is no time to try and save a few dollars! So, it makes good sense to spend a bit more on a Disney Lightning Lane and streamline your Disneyland ride and entertainment experiences.

Disney Lightning Lane may seem like an extra expense, but even if you are only visiting Disneyland Resort for a limited number of days, you should definitely consider upgrading your standard ticket to a Lightning Lane pass for a more efficient visit.

What is Disneyland Early Entry?

As a bonus, when you stay at an official Disneyland Resort Hotel you get access to the Disneyland 30-minute early entry to one of the two Disneyland theme parks every day of your hotel stay. This is a really good reason to stay at a Disneyland Hotel. That’s a 30 minute head-start on other Disneyland visitors, which is a great advantage when it comes to the most busy rides at Disneyland! You do still need to have a valid park ticket and have booked a park reservation.

Which days are early entry for Disneyland Park for hotel guests?

Disneyland Park are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Which days are early entry for California Adventure for hotel guests?

Disney California Adventure Park are Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

The Disneyland Resort App is essential to make the most of your Disney days. Us this app for entry, Lightning Lane, live navigational maps, to find out ride wait times, event information and even where Disney characters are going to appear! Your photo pass ride photos can also be loaded into your app as you make your way around the theme parks.

In the USA or Japan, you can also use the Disney Parks App to purchase park tickets. We decided we wanted an extra day at Disneyland before flying home to Australia, and bought tickets using the Disneyland App.

The Disneyland Resort Play App comes in very handy if you are waiting in line for a ride, as families can use it to play Disney games together! It keeps everyone entertained and is a lot of fun.

Can I connect my paper Disneyland ticket to the App?

Yes you can. It’s a good idea to link your Disneyland Resort ticket to the Disneyland App on your phone before your visit, however you can do this anytime, such as after receiving your ticket (if you bought tickets online) at the gate.

Ticketing and Lightning Lane work seamlessly within the Disneyland Resort App on your smart phone via a scannable barcode system.

How do I scan my Disneyland tickets into the app?

Does holding a Disneyland ticket guarantee entry?

No. Like any other theme park, Disneyland has the potential to reach a maximum number of Guests in the park.

As there is still a park date reservation system being used in California Disney, it’s important you reserve the dates you wish to visit if this isn’t automatically included with your admission pass.

Do you still need to reserve your Disneyland date of visit in 2025?

Yes. This is managed by the Disneyland reservation system, which you can only make after you have bought a Disneyland ticket.

Therefore, at peak times such as USA holidays and weekends, it’s highly recommended that if your reservation isn’t included automatically with your Disneyland ticket, that you make your reservations early.

Where to stay when visiting California Disneyland Resort

Disneyland is located around 45 minutes drive from LAX in the city of Anaheim, so it’s important to stay in Anaheim so that you aren’t wasting your precious Disney time commuting each day.

Finding a hotel for the family to stay in during your Disneyland vacation is sometimes like finding a needle in a haystack. We usually start off searching according to our priorities – location, food, pool… but sometimes it can be really hard to find the hotel that ticks all your boxes. Not to mention in the price range you want!

Most of all we want to know if that Disney hotel really is as good as they say it is – but who do you believe when it comes to reviews? Are they real reviews by real people?

Luckily, my Disneyland California Holiday Planning Facebook Group is packed full of real Disneyland Park frequent visitors who aren’t afraid to tell it like it is about the hotels surrounding Disneyland!

Which are the closest hotels to Disneyland?

The following hotels are closer to the park turnstiles than the Disneyland Hotel, and are a few minutes walk across the road:

About the 3 Disneyland Official Park Hotels

Disneyland Hotel
Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa
Pixar Place Hotel

The 3 official hotels are great if you plan to spend a lot of time at the resorts, in the pools, dining there, etc. Otherwise, the 30 minutes of early entry alone really isn’t worth the extra cost.

Official Disney hotel or hotel across the street?

The properties across the street are a very short walk but are not comparable to the Disney properties really in any way, especially to DLH and GCH. Across the street they are lower end motel-style properties with few amenities.

The Disney properties are full on resorts, with significantly bigger and better pools, multiple restaurants and bars, shops, their own security entrances and early entry, valet and concierge services, etc. People who spend down time at the resorts generally feel that the extra cost is worth it to not leave the Disney “bubble.”

People who simply need a place to sleep at night are very happy to save the money and stay across the street

Which is the best hotel to watch the Disneyland fireworks?

We stayed at the Suncoast and stayed in a regular double queen suite, room 340 and had an amazing view each night. We did not stay in the more expensive room that you pay extra for to see the fireworks.

Light sleeper? Hotels with highway noise issues

Element – You can definitely hear the freeway if you’re on that (the freeway) side.

if road noise is an issue for you you’ll also want to avoid some of the newer hotels along Katella Ave (Hyatt House, Springhill Suites, Residence Inn, etc), unless you get a room facing south. But then you can’t see the parks.

Larger family accommodation

For larger suite-type rooms that might fit all of you but are a little closer, you might also check out (Springhill Suites) and Hyatt House

There is the Alamo that is older less expensive and doesn’t charge for a vehicle. It is right at the end of the parking lot for Downtown Disney.

We stayed at Alamo inns and suites, 10/15 minute walk. Lovely room and staff. We could see the parks from our room.

We stayed at Alpine Inn recently for about $150/night and it was basic but nice and clean and about a 10 minute walk to the entrance. We would stay again especially if we planned to be in the park most of the time!

hello! we did end up staying there and even doe the hotel wasnt the prettiest, it was what we needed, we went to the walmart nearby( yes we walked ) and managed to save money buying snacks and food for not only disney but in the hotel and we did walk to disney everytime! it wasnt too far at all. i think if u can get it for a cheap price its totally worth it:) considering its just a place to hold ur items and sleep at night

Anaheim Desert Inn is across the road from the main entrance. Also has a viewing deck for fireworks. Don’t think it’s fancy – has a continental breakfast included but also a great price. Location is everything.

We always stay across from the Disneyland Bus Station at The Anaheim Hotel. Just a 5 minute walk into the bus depot and the entrance to Disneyland . We travel from New Zealand and always stay there. It’s close for me to go back to the hotel for a nap during the day lol

Another vote for the Anaheim hotel across the road from the parks. Very easy 5 minute walk – super convenient, we just came back from there and would head to the park in the day, come back to the hotel about 4ish for the kids to have a breather and then walk back to the park in the early evening to continue on. Super close and very convenient

Disappointing Stay – (abbreviated) A Decline in Standards and Service – strong, unpleasant cigarette odor. The bathroom was not properly cleaned – hair was on the floor and there was visible mold/mildew present. The phone in the room did not work, making it impossible to contact the front desk or housekeeping. Furniture was in a state of disrepair. Mold or mildew was visible in the corner of the room on the ceiling. Cobwebs were hanging from the ceiling. Wallpaper was peeling/delaminating from the wall. The cold air return vents were filthy and clearly had not been cleaned in a long time. Given the lack of care, responsiveness, and cleanliness, we no longer feel confident staying at this property and cannot recommend it to others.

BW Stovall is a super easy walk. We stay at the Westin right across the street all the time.

You just go right up Disneyland Dr and enter security in front of the Disneyland Hotel. It’s a very safe, very nicely landscaped walk. There will be plenty of people doing the walk at all times of day. Including cast members who park nearby.

On your way home from the parks you can cut through the Grand Californian to cut off some steps. You can’t go in that way in the morning if you’re not a guest, but it’s easy at night.

We stayed at Best Western Stovall. We were so happy with it. The location and walk felt safe. The breakfast was incredible. Saved us a bunch of money. Very clean. Comfy beds.

Cambria Hotel & Suites reviews

Just came back from staying at the Cambria. The walk was flat & super easy only 2 blocks really. On a map it looks more difficult. There are lots of young families all doing the same thing.

Cambria hotel, they have suites and adjoining rooms, 2 showers in each room too. Breakfast included. ART shuttle bus stop outside hotel, easy transport to and from parks

My son’s and I just stayed at The Cambria hotel and suites and we loved it. Fantastic facilities, good free breakfast and heaps of restaurants out the front, swimming pool, waterslides, childs water pad, mini golf, basketball hoop and big spa, laundry facilities and a gym. Small vehicle Uber to the parks is between $5-$10 each way and easy 5min walk to toy story parking lot where you can get the free bus to Disneyland

We stayed at the Cambria a couple of years ago, at the time our kids were 13 and 6, we all love the place, clean and tidy fantastic pool and water slides, a bit of a walk to Disneyland but managed it, would stay there again definitely, hope you have a great holiday.

The Cambria is a perfectly fine property with a great pool. The only downside is that it’s 7-8 min further walk to the parks – but you can walk into the Toy Story parking lot and take the shuttle. 

We are at the cambria now for 10 days. The rooms are clean and love the full size fridge and microwave. The pool is warm and the waterslides are a bonus for the kids. It’s nice to have Starbucks and other restaurants in the parking lot. The breakfast is decent but busy. We could watch the fireworks right from our room. The only down fall is no dressers or anywhere to put clothes for a long stay.

Enjoyed the Candy Cane Inn a few years ago. Literally occupies the southeast corner in the block mostly filled by DCA, and a pretty easy walk to the gate (without needing to cross Harbour Blvd). There are closer places along the road, but I haven’t tried them

We just stayed at Candy Cane Inn and loved it.

Candy Cane is smaller, mom and pop operated, and newly renovated.

We just stayed at the candy cane inn which is on the same side of the street as Disneyland and it was great, comfy beds, breakfast was very good and many options. It’s motel style so you don’t have to wait on elevators etc. They also offer a shuttle every hour

We LOVE Candy Cane Inn. We are just trying for a little closer and less expensive. However, we all loved the breakfast, the friendly staff, the newly renovated rooms

We just checked out of Candy Cane Inn today and I would highly recommend it. 5 minute walk to Disneyland and the hotel is beautiful, clean and staff super friendly. Breakfast and parking included. You can see the back side of Radiator Springs from the hotel, that’s how close you are.

We stayed at Candy Cane Inn last August. It was affordable, clean, walking distance to parks and had free daily breakfast.

It’s a pretty basic hotel, although I think at least partially renovated in the last couple years. Super easy walk, and also a couple random places to eat right next door. The best part are the owners – it’s family owned and they’re super nice people. Usually really good customer service there.

Check out castle inn and suites it’s an easy walk free parking for a car if you have one, most hotels close by will charge a parking fee up toward 20 bucks a day.

We stayed at Element from April 13-15 and loved the spacious rooms. We were upgraded to a room with a king bed, 2 bunk beds, a couch, and a kitchenette with a microwave and utensils. It was only a 10-minute walk to California Adventure and Disneyland.

We stayed at the Element and loved it, the hotel is spotless, the breakfast is amazing, free cheese and wine mon to thurs, some rooms with fireworks views and the pool was like a bath, we were there in winter, also it was an easy walk to the park. We would 100% stay at the Element again, also family of 5, 3 big kids, 21,18 and 15.

you could hear the road noise at the pool but it wasn’t too bad. We couldn’t hear any road noise from our room (not freeway side). I’m a really light sleeper, I can’t have a room at a lift shaft or doors etc and I slept great at the Element. You will love it. we were on the other side from the motorway the rooms with the parks views.

Try the Element. It’s super clean, and nice (brand new) for being a quick place to stay. Easy walk to/from the parks.

Element Anaheim Resort Convention Center Hotel Negatives

You can definitely hear the freeway if you’re on that side. I’m a fairly light sleeper and hated it. But, the park view rooms all face due west into the park and are much quieter, so when we stay there – and we do, bc it’s quite nice – we only do park view.

The Element is a nice Hotel but is a bit of A walk to the parks. It also doesn’t have a spa pool but the included breakfast is good.

We are at Fairfield right now. We stayed at Disneyland hotel earlier this month. This was is actually faster than Disneyland hotel.

Almost opposite the entrance and just as close as the Disney hotels.

We stayed at the Fairfield. McDonald’s and Panera in the parking lot.

The best view of fireworks is probably from the Fairfield Anaheim Resort. It’s a high rise building, has exterior walkways where people can stand and watch on every floor even if your actual room doesn’t face the parks, and it’s one of the absolute closest hotels to where the fireworks actually launch.

All that said, I wouldn’t pick a hotel for that reason – if you’re concerned about not making it to the end of the night I’d just pick something close where you can take a midday break and then go back in the evening to watch the nighttime shows from inside the park.

We did three days (2 at Disneyland and 1 in DCA) and stayed at grand legacy at the park. I highly recommend the hotel. You just cross the street and you are at the parks. We loved going back in the hot afternoon for a swim and then head back to the parks when it got cooler.

We stayed last week it wasnt a far walk at all even though its about 15-20 mins. The city runs a shuttle which was super handy only around $4 for adults and $3 for kids which can be used multiple times a day. The shuttle picks you up at the entrance of the holiday inn, also stops at a few other hotels but drops you straight to the park gates. The reception will give you the shuttle details and you just download the app which you can buy the tickets and also track where the shuttle is

The ART bus system was great for my group of 7 to use.

The Howard Johnson is around an 8 minute walk to the security entrance of Disneyland. It’s a great option and is across the road from the parks, close to lots of places to eat too. Can highly recommend (stayed there in November and walked back in the dark as a group of females and felt safe).

The Hojo is just a 10 min walk to security. There are closer properties but lower end motel types. The Hojo was recently renovated and has a great water park. If you’re doing any rest days between park days it’s great for kids.

We stayed there last November and it’s around an 8 minute walk. If you cross over the road (not Harbour Blvd) and walk through the Marriott car park it’s quick.

We stayed at the Howard Johnston probably 10-15 min walk, not far at all.

Howard Johnson is a very manageable walk to Disney we were there last year and no complaints from my sons walking youngest was 7 

Hojo is a bigger property. also has some – but not all – newly renovated rooms, and a fun water park

If you’re going in warm weather and would have a day or afternoon at the hotel taking breaks, I’d go with Hojo.

We were just at the Howard Johnson. It was great the walk wasn’t too far and we had our 3 year old with us. The room we had was great and spacious there were 5 of us and the water park was good too.

We stayed at the Howard Johnson in November, it wasn’t really a long walk at all. Would absolutely stay there again, super clean and friendly staff.

This hotel isn’t far at all from Disney have stayed twice 

HoJo is 8 mins to the security entrance at Disneyland. It’s a really straight walk down one road and easy to do.

Last month we stayed at the Howard Johnson which was 8mins walk to Disneyland and we walked to Walmart which was about 20mins walk. We just did a big shop so we only had to do it once.

It’s not a far walk 

 we stayed there 2 years ago and took us max 15 minutes! Even with a 5 year old at the time it was easy

Howard Johnston but I don’t think they do breakfast but there is a few restaurants you pass on the way. Has a splash park. Walk isn’t far and you can see fireworks show from your hotel if your baby is sleeping and can’t last that late. Not sure they have a shuttle though. Also not sure on price.

First time in 2013 was fantastic went again last year and was not impressed- there was no AC and we had a bed bug scare. . HoJo is farther than I like to walk after a long day

All the people saying it’s not far, less than 10 minute walk…I’m with the OP, at the end of a 12 hour day being in your feet all day at Disneyland, another 10 mins is torture.

Howard Johnson is a good hotel but after a big day at Disneyland you don’t feel like rhe walk up the slight hill.

We have just returned from the Hyatt Regency Orange County and we loved it. Upon check in we were asked if we would like an update to a two bedroom, two bathroom suite with a lounge and it was perfect. Lovely hotel and will be booking again in 2027. We highly recommend this hotel and it even has a shuttle to the parks which runs every half an hour for six dollars.

We stayed at the Pixar Place and had a really lovely time. Such a cute hotel and clean. Easy short stroll into downtown Disney and can catch the monorail into Disneyland.

Best onsite is Pixar Place! Large rooms, themed, splash pad, waterslide, pool, outdoor viewing with fire pits for fireworks.

I agree Pixar if on site. We stayed at the grand as well. But Pixar was amazing for our large family.

But Pixar is a new renovation so the rooms are nice and fresh, albeit smaller. PP it’s fastest to just walk across Disneyland Drive (long light, tons of people crossing) to either go through the Grand to DTD or DL, or through the private entry into DCA

If you want to stay on site I’ve heard Pixar hotel is the best on site cost wise.

We love it!! We stayed this past September with my family of 7. We enjoyed being close to the parks the pool!! But it just depends on your budget. We are staying there in November with my parents. With my parents my dad needs a scooter and it makes so much easier for us to access everything for him.

we had a 4 day hopper park ticket and stayed at Sheraton Park Hotel, perfect location for the park about 10 minutes from parks with a lovely pool area and rooms are fantastic with a view of the parks- you can watch the fireworks from your balcony! the area is lovely with lots of restaurants close by and mostly everything as walking distance.
Definitely have a look at the hotel it really was a great location and the rooms were super modern and clean.

Sheraton is a bit further down the road (from the entrance to Disneyland), probably a 15 min walk but if you cross the road you can use the shuttles in the Toy Story parking lot for free!

I have stayed there every trip (5) and found it a pleasant walk also

Suncoast was great! Could see the ferris wheel from our room!

We’ve booked the sun coast Hilton – according to reports it’s about a 15min walk away and you can see the fireworks from there. For us as a party of four it was also reasonably priced.

We stayed at the Suncoast and stayed in a regular double queen suite, room 340 and had an amazing view each night. We did not stay in the more expensive room that you pay extra for to see the fireworks.

We just last week stayed at SunCoast Tapestry and had no issues there. Easy enough walk there and back through the day to Disneyland and DCA. We have a 14 and 9 year old. We went back each afternoon for a quick break and grab jumpers and then back into parks… we were there 4 night

We stayed at the Suncoast Park. Pool was amazing, walk was 10-12 minutes to the park for us. There isn’t a free breakfast so we bought groceries and would make our own.

Have just got back from staying at Wyndham Anaheim & had a fabulous stay. Didn’t have a car but was offered a car park if we decided to hire one. We did a shop & made our own quick breakfasts on park days &/or grabbed something from the Starbucks down in the foyer. They had potties of cereal & yoghurt which a couple of times I ate on route to the park. The staff were fabulous & went out of their way to know our names & couldn’t do enough for us. The hotel has a bus stop literally right outside that takes u to the park or the free Toy Story bus was right across the road from the hotel that u could walk to. Great location with the garden city walk being next door. We would most definitely stay there again.

Accommodation: Wyndham Anaheim – 2 double beds + cot for our daughter. Great location, 10-minute walk to the parks (very stroller friendly route). Optional breakfast (we ate at the parks). Close to Walgreens, CVS, pizza places, IHOP, Denny’s, and Cheesecake Factory – super convenient with a toddler. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Where should I stay when visiting Disney theme parks?

Accommodation surrounding Disney Parks can range from the lowest of budget motels to five-star official Disney hotels. It is quite possible to find a happy balance somewhere in the middle.

If you’re on a tight budget, good low to mid-range hotels reasonably close to the Disney Parks exist in abundance. To narrow the field down, aim for hotels with good reviews on Trip Advisor, free shuttle services to the Park and included breakfasts to help keep your vacation costs to a minimum. That way you can splash more cash in the Disney Parks instead!

If staying at a themed hotel is big part of your Disney holiday budget, then an official hotel can add a lot of extra fun to your trip. Disney hotels don’t usually come cheap but there are some moderate Disney hotel options. Disney hotels are usually located closest to the theme parks and offer Disney themed rooms, shuttles to the park and other handy facilities. Many feature resort pools, play areas, restaurants, gift shops and include on-site entertainment too.

Schedule rest days following travel days

When you are planning out your USA trip itinerary, if you have the time and budget for it, schedule rest days immediately following flights. This will help immensely if jet lag hits. Generally, everyone is tired after the long-haul flight from Australia in any case, so a rest day can really help to catch up on sleep and adjust to the new time zone. Rest days are also great after moving from one area to another, or for changing hotels.

A rest day allows everyone to recharge, rest and settle in. Take a nap. Have a swim in the resort pool. Visit the resort play areas or just orientate yourselves with where you are, how to get food and how to get to around. Plan out if you need to reserve and particular popular Disney rides the next morning. If everyone is full of energy, visit some local attractions. There will always be something to see that you didn’t factor into your trip planning!

You’ll all be refreshed and ready to hit the theme parks with renewed energy and enthusiasm on the following day!

Basic first aid

Take the thermometre you usually use to take your child’s temperature with. It will save you second-guessing if your child feels unwell during your holiday. You may also wish to take some children’s Panadol, or whatever you normally use in case of fever. Pharmacies are readily available in the USA, but it’s good to take what you and your child are already familiar with.

If your child takes any prescribed medication, be sure to keep it safely stowed in your carry-on luggage in its original packaging, pack an extra amount in your checked luggage and also take a spare prescription to cover all your bases. Before your trip get a letter from your Doctor stating what they take and why, and pack separate copies with the medication.

Drug pharmacies can be extremely expensive dispensing your child’s medication in comparison to Australia. Australians don’t get the advantage of the Australian Pharmaceautical Benefits Scheme (PBS) overseas.

Get travel insurance

Travel insurance is absolutely essential for your Disney holiday.

I’m going to get a little boring here, but I can’t stress enough to you how important it is to purchase travel insurance – and not just to cover a cancelled trip.

Some Australian credit cards offer free travel insurance if you purchase your travel using it, however it’s rarely as comprehensive as you need. If this is what you want to use, check what it covers very carefully.

The USA medical system is extremely expensive so make sure you take out travel insurance that covers everything for your family medically. This should include Covid. Be sure to pay any extra premiums for action sports you may be undertaking such as horse riding or skiing.  Often pre-existing conditions such as Epilepsy can be covered by some Australian travel insurance providers for an extra fee. Insure yourself and your family to the max.

Most travel insurance policies also include some measure of hire car coverage, so if you are hiring a car in the US you may be able to save by not doubling up on hire car insurance.

Travel Insurance is one of those rare occasions where you really should take the time to carefully read the Product Disclosure Statement!

Can I rent a stroller at Disneyland?

Yes, you can hire single and double strollers at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World (and small strollers at Tokyo Disneyland, for that matter). Disney stroller rentals start at around AUD$30 for a single and AUD$50 a day for a double stroller, which can add quite a lot to your holiday budget.

USA Disney strollers also don’t have the best reputation for useability or comfort. They are reportedly difficult to steer and uncomfortable to use, as the seat is made from molded plastic.

Many families do bring prams to Disney Parks, or hire them at the Park. Small children soon get tired walking all those Disney Park miles, plus a stroller also gives them the option of taking a nap. This can help pace your child’s energy during their long Disney day to help them make it through to the Disney fireworks at night, a highlight of any Disney holiday!

Prams and strollers aren’t allowed onboard Disney trains or monorails within the Parks, but there is pram parking everywhere.

The Original Disneyland

Disneyland Park is the original theme park created by Walt Disney in 1955. Disney fans travel from all around the world just to visit California Disneyland – and for good reason. It’s here that some very special memories are made together. As a parent, I’ll always remember seeing the look of wonder on my girls faces as we passed through the entrance gates for the very first time – and that tingling feeling I got when I caught my first glimpse of the Disneyland Castle. It’s just…magic!

The Disneyland atmosphere is one of sheer joy and excitement. Families skip through the park together, wearing group Disneyland-trip t-shirts and matching Mickey ears. Mickey Mouse, the Disney Princesses and all the other beloved Disney Characters roam the park to hug you and your kids, and pose for photographs. This is the real Disneyland, where you can even see the light that is always left on in Walt Disney’s original apartment.

Disneyland rides are fun for the whole family

Our family made it our mission to go on as many different Disneyland rides as possible during our holiday. Over the course of several days we still didn’t come close to riding them all – but we sure had a lot of fun trying!

There are so many wonderful rides and attractions at Disneyland. They range from the very gentle rides suitable for people of all ages and abilities, right up to rocket-fast thrill rides for the daring.  Each one has it’s own Disney theme, and immerses you into it’s own special world.

From the very charming rides such as It’s A Small World, Jungle Cruise, The Enchanted Tiki Room and Mark Twain Riverboat, to the very exciting rides like Pirates Of The Caribbean, Indianna Jones Adventure and the Matterhorn Bobsleds – the sheer scale of some of these rides is mind boggling. When you emerge at the end of each ride, all you want to do is go again, and again…but there’s so much to see – and onward to the next!

Disneyland are continually expanding their ride world’s and technology – it’s here you’ll find some of the most advance virtual reality and thrill rides in the world! If you’ve visited Disneyland before, you’ll find there’s always another new attraction, and so another reason to revisit Disneyland and see what’s new!

Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park at the Plaza Inn

If you only do one Disney-themed breakfast at Disneyland Resorts California, then Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park at the Plaza Inn should be the one! This wonderful breakfast was truly magical, with Disney character after character visiting our table to sign autographs, pose for photographs and give you a big hug – you haven’t been hugged, until you’ve been Disney-hugged! Newest ride at Disneyland is Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge

One of the amazing Disneyland Park areas to explore is Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge which is incredibly themed throughout, and has its own roaming Star Wars characters to interact with – including the newest, the Mandalorian! It also runs some really unique workshop experiences, such as building your own light saber or droid! Make sure you book for a spot in one of these – we couldn’t get in on the day, as they are very popular!

There are two incredible rides to experience at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge – Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run and the brand-new Star Wars ride, Rise of the Resistance.

The Disney Resort App is essential to make the most of your Disney days. Your photo pass ride photos can also be loaded into your app as you make your way around the parks.

In the USA or Japan, you can also use the Disney Parks App to purchase park tickets.

The Disney Play App comes in very handy if you are waiting in line for a ride, as families can use it to play Disney games together! It’s a lot of fun.

Where to stay when visiting California Disneyland Resort

Disneyland is located around 45 minutes drive from LAX in the city of Anaheim.

As any trip to Disneyland requires several days to enjoy the full experience, it’s important to stay in Anaheim for this part of your California trip. Otherwise, you’re going to find yourself spending a lot of precious holiday time commuting in LA traffic (Uber journeys from Hollywood to Disneyland cost around $80 at the time of writing this article, and can take around an hour). Therefore, it makes good sense to book your stay in an Anaheim hotel – particularly one located in the Disneyland neighbourhood.

Whilst in Anaheim we stayed in the Anaheim Marriot Suites, in Garden Grove. Located only minutes from the Disneyland Resort attractions, this elegant full-service hotel is the perfect base for any Disneyland family holiday.

Three weeks following our Disneyland days, and on the last day of our California trip, I gave my children the opportunity to choose wherever they would like to visit in the Los Angeles or Anaheim area before we returned to Australia. They chose to return to Disneyland.

Which Disneyland Resort in California tickets should I choose?

How many Disney parks are in California?

There are two Disneyland Resort theme parks in Anaheim, California, located directly opposite each other.

Disneyland Park – the original Disneyland, and Disney California Adventure – the second Disney theme park in California. It’s just a minute’s walk to cross from one park to the other.

What kind of Klook Disneyland tickets are available?

There are two main types of California Disney Resort tickets available to choose from on Klook – the 1 Park per Day ticket and the Park Hopper ticket. You can also buy a version with Lightning Lane included, which is highly recommended to skip the ride queues!

The Disneyland 1-Park-Per-Day Ticket

Cheaper, and perfect for your days at Disneyland Resort when you want to stay within one park, the One Park Per Day Disneyland Ticket from Klook is just the thing!

How does the One Park Per Day Disney Ticket work?

You just choose which of the two Disneyland Resort theme parks you’d like to visit for each day – Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure.

How does the Disney Park Hopper Ticket work?

After a certain time each day (it depends upon the day and season – usually 10am for quieter days or 2pm for busy days) you can walk (“hop back and forwards”) between the parks as much as you like with your Klook Disneyland Park Hopper Ticket – too easy!

Again, you have the option of choosing from 2 to 5 days. We pinged around like crazy with our Park Hopper tickets, and although they’ll cost you a little more, they’re definitely worth it to optimise your time at Disneyland.

What are Disneyland Lightning Lanes?

Lightning Lanes are basically a fast lane you can buy as a Disneyland ticket add-on. There is a Disney Lightning Lane Multi Pass which includes multiple once-only rides and a free photo download package, and the Lightning Lane Single, which is a single ride on two rides not included in the Multi Pass – Radiator Springs Racers in California Adventure, and Starwars Rise of the Resistance in Disneyland Park.

Lightning Lanes bypass much of the Disneyland long and winding standby ride queues by funneling you straight to the head of the line. This can save you hours of waiting in line. Several popular ride lines can be well over an hour, or even two hours long.

I’d highly recommend selecting Lightning Lane Klook Disneyland Resort California ticket package to access the Disneyland and California Adventure Lightning Lanes – time is money, and it is really worth its weight in gold!

To have your digital tickets on hand, and in preparation for your visit to Disneyland, download the Disneyland App before you go at the App Store and Google Play.

Navigate around the theme parks, find restaurants, rides, check for event times and other points of interest. You can check ride wait times and much more.

People have been turned away at the Disneyland gates even if they have a valid ticket if they do not have a park reservation.

Do I need to make Disneyland reservations for both parks with a Park Hopper Ticket?

No, you only need to have a park reservation for the first park you visit, which you have already nominated on your Klook Disney ticket.

The Anaheim Marriot Suites have a host of hotel facilities for guests to use and enjoy.

There’s an excellent hotel restaurant on-site for a full hot breakfast in the morning to fuel the family up for a big day at Disney Parks.

Also on site you’ll find a gym & fitness centre, a well-stocked gift shop and a Starbucks coffee shop in the foyer.

A resort swimming pool and hot tub

The resort style swimming pool and spa is a beautiful hotel feature. This large and stylish pool is lined with reclining lounges, and makes for the perfect spot to relax and rest those Disney-weary feet at the end of the day!

Local shops and restaurants

There are plenty of local services surrounding the hotel, with a large Target department store situated directly across the road and open until late, and an Outback Steakhouse restaurant next door.

There are so many amazing rides and attractions at both of Florida’s Universal theme parks. We spent one day in each of the two major Universal Orlando Resort theme parks, Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, and found that there are some truly incredible experiences to be had there!

What are the best rides at Universal Studios Florida theme park?

Here is a list of the best rides at Universal Studios Florida – and why we think that they shouldn’t be missed during your Orlando Universal visit.

1. Revenge of the Mummy – we’ve been lucky enough to do several versions of this very ride around the world, but this is the only one that combines all the others AND has a brilliant add-on section where you feel like you are being plunged into the very depths of Hell – the best Mummy ride ever!

2. Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit – this confronting roller coaster is full on, from the dizzy climb upwards to its highest point to what comes afterwards – screaming speeds of over 100km per hour combined with drops, loops and twists! If you like mad speeds and g-forces, then you’re going to absolutely love the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit – get ready for a crazy ride!

3. Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts – this fantastically themed ride will have you hooked from the moment you step into the queue with its Gringotts bank interior and life-like animatronic goblins. But don’t get too charmed – the ride itself packs a real punch and is full of Hogwarts’ sworn enemies and villains! Lots of fun.

4. E.T. Adventure – walk through the deep dark woods where you queue to climb aboard your bicycle (actually a much more accommodating seat) and soar through the night skies for some gorgeous E.T. movie nostalgia – as the bad guys chase you of course! E.T. takes you on a magical journey through the sky to his home planet, full of cute little critters. Let’s face it – E.T. just never gets old! It was a delight to find this ride tucked away in a corner at Universal Studios Florida – we all loved it.

Other rides we did at Universal Studios Florida…

Men in Black Alien Attack -we loved this shoot-em-up ride – it’s most similar to Toy Story Midway Mania but even more exciting because you’re in a city, it’s dark and you’re hunting Aliens – lots of fun.

The Simpsons Ride – a fun motion simulator ride where you all sit in a car that moves with a screen in front of you. Immersive Simpsons fun.

Race through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon – being Australian I didn’t really know much about Jimmy, but racing through New York in this 3D motion simulator theatre experience was actually way more fun than I expected!

Fast & Furious – Supercharged – if you’ve been on the Studio Tour at Universal Hollywood Studios, skip it because it’s pretty much the same. If you haven’t, this is a climb-aboard big bus surrounded by massive screens and the bus moves. Honestly, I regarded it as a very long queue for a ride that wasn’t as new and exciting as I had hoped for, but there were some nice Fast and Furious car models parked in the queue to look at. One for the movie franchise and car enthusiasts.

What are the best rides at Universal’s Islands of Adventure theme park?

Here is a list of the best rides at Islands of Adventure – and why we think that they shouldn’t be missed during your Orlando Universal visit.

1. Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure – without a doubt this ride knocked all the other rides out of the park for both theming and excitement. Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure is a rocket-fast twisty and turn-y rollercoaster where you are sat astride a motorbike. You could just tell that everyone aboard was having a ball! The only drawback was what felt like the slowest ride queue ever at over two-hours, and the fact that because of it we ran out of time and missed the Jurassic World Velocicoaster (which we heard was also amazing). Darn – maybe next time!

2. The Incredible Hulk Coaster – a really fun roller coaster that was a lot – but not too much! From start to finish this is a great ride that we all really enjoyed.

3. The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman – this was a really fun ride that felt a lot like the Transformers: The ride 3d. Very jerky and sporadic, but great theming and good fun!

4. Dr Doom’s Fearfall – a quite short but awesome ride that we were expecting to fall, so it got us by surprise when it suddenly sent us up to the heavens at top speed – we loved it though!

Other rides we did at Islands of Adventure…

Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls – quite a fun flume ride with a big water plunge at the end.

Skull Island – Reign of Kong – see Fast & Furious – Supercharged. The same ride experience as the studios tour, just with the addition of a large animatronic head.

The High In The Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride! – this charming ride takes you on a meandering trip over the top of Suess Landing. Super cute and fun, this is a gorgeous family ride.

The Cat in the Hat Ride  – a cute and colourful ride. A little boring for adults and older kids, which makes it perfect for very small children and fans of Cat in the Hat.

1. Jurassic World – The Ride – a fascinating, slow but eventually thrilling boat ride through Jurassic World. There are dinosaurs galore, some of them get very threatening, but it’s all good fun. With its massive tank effects near the start and high flume-style drop, we think this Universal Studios Hollywood version is one of the best Jurassic boat rides in the world. Prepare to get a little wet!
2. Mario Kart™: Bowser’s Challenge – like stepping into a real-live video game, put on high tech goggles to fully immerse into this kart race. With no express pass option, this new and popular ride may have it’s eager fans waiting in line for around two hours – a testament to how fun it is!
3. Revenge of the Mummy – The Ride – high velocity thrills, fire and scares in a dark ride rollercoaster with sudden starts and stops – this Universal Studios Hollywood version is unique, in that it sends you through a scary volley of Mummy monsters – then puts you through it all again in reverse! Great fun.
4. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey – enter through Hogwarts castle to board your carriage. This is a beautiful flying experience with some scary bits thanks to the Dementors and Whomping Willow – mostly this a lovely nostalgic experience as you watch the beloved Harry Potter characters brought to life once more.
5. TRANSFORMERS: The Ride-3D – a really fun ride, but be prepared for lots of stops, starts and sudden movements! Climb aboard and hang on as you avoid getting pulverized by fighting Autobots from the planet Cybertron. A top ride experience.

You won’t go hungry – or thirsty for that matter – at Universal Studios Hollywood thanks to a plethora of themed restaurants, cafes, bars and snack outlets!

Churros, donuts, pretzels – all the classic theme park snacks are here. There are lots of really fun themed snacks to try, like this gigantic Lard Lad Donut we found in Springfield!

Even if you don’t eat it’s fun just to pop into the Kwik E Mart and Moes Tavern in Springfield for a look – or a Duff Beer! Moe and also the Love Tester machine is in Moe’s Tavern, just like in the Simpsons TV series. We all had a turn of course – ahem, I’m a Casanova, just for the record!

We loved eating lunch at the restaurant in Jurassic World where the meals look like they’ve been dragged out of a dino-swamp, but actually taste great! There was a cocktail bar outside serving some amazing looking themed drinks too.

Super Nintendo World has a restaurant all of its own – the Toadstool Cafe is so popular we weren’t even able to take a look inside, as it was booked out the day we visited.

Be sure to book the Toadstool Cafe early in the day if it’s busy and you want to eat there. But don’t worry if you don’t get in, because there are many more eateries all around the park to choose from!

Disneyland is a huge holiday destination for Australian families, particularly this year for Disney’s 100th anniversary. But flying all the way to the USA can seem a bit daunting with children. What if they cry all the way there? What if they get bored? How do I keep them comfortable and settled on board a long-haul flight?

Fear not! We’ve done a lot of travelling over the years and along the way I’ve picked up several handy tips, tricks and hacks for navigating airports and flying with children – which I’m going to share here with you in this article!

Pre-Disney Trip Flight Planning

Am I allowed to take our car seat on board a plane?

Usually, yes. But before you book your flights, do your airline research.

Taking your baby or toddler car seat on board a flight can be really handy. Some parents have even been innovative enough to strap their child’s car seat to a wheely trolley. This can make airport travel even easier as it acts as a makeshift stroller. The narrowest kind of car seat works best for this so that it fits between seats down the aircraft aisle if you are taking it onboard. You can choose to either take your car seat onboard with you or check it as luggage, usually for no charge.

Considerations are that many airlines require you to pre-book your car seat, undergo a pre-flight car seat safety check at the airport if you intend on using it inside the aircraft cabin on the seat, plus there is a child weight requirement. If you intend to use it as your child’s seat be sure to be ready to board to fit the car seat before general boarding of an aircraft. Your car seat doesn’t count towards your carry-on baggage.

Do airlines charge for car seats?

No, airlines don’t charge anything extra for children’s car seats. As an added bonus, if you’re hiring a car in the USA then you’ve already got your child’s seat with you and so don’t have to hire one with the car.

How do I get a bassinet on a flight?

If you are traveling with an infant, airline supplied fold-down bassinets in aircraft front bulkhead rows can be a very useful resource.

Aircraft bassinets generally accommodate newborns up to babies aged around one year old. They allow infants to lie flat and get some quality sleep – and give you a break from holding them for the whole flight!

Bassinets and their design vary from airline to airline, as can their child weight limitations (they usually have around a 9-11kg maximum limit). They can’t be used during take-off, landing or during turbulence.

Aircraft bassinets may need to be booked in advance. Front seat rows and bassinets can be in high demand, so be sure to book them as early as possible and make yourself known to the airline upon arrival.

Infant seat belts

During take off, landing and turbulence, even if you have an airline bassinet to use, you’ll be required to hold your baby whilst using a special aircraft infant seatbelt which loops around them and clips to yours.

A flight attendant will help you to get everything set up, safe and comfortable.

Can I take my pram on board with us?

Yes, if it folds down to an appropriate size and weight (usually under 9kgs). There are some very small travel strollers available on the market.

You are also usually able to take your pram all the way to the Boarding Gate and then check it at the gate if you prefer, or if it is too large or heavy. You will need to check that your airline will allow using your pram all the way to the boarding gate prior and/or at check in.

If allowed, let airline staff know you have your pram with you when you arrive at the gate. They will assist you, or arrange for your pram to be stowed in the cargo hold underneath the airplane cabin, last thing.

If stowed in cargo at the gate, airline staff will usually arrange to get your pram out and have it waiting for you right outside the aircraft door when you disembark at your destination. Sometimes you may need to pick it up at the baggage carousel or oversized luggage area.

Do airlines charge for prams and strollers?

No. Airlines don’t charge to carry prams and will usually also allow you to carry an extra nappy bag in addition to your normal baggage allowances.

Will my pram be damaged by the airline?

Possibly. If you have outlaid a large amount of money for a quality or designer pram, it may be wise to swap it out for a cheaper pram for your trip. You may not want to run the risk of an expensive pram being damaged by over-zealous baggage handlers, or even lost completely. My own expensive stroller’s frame was damaged during just one Australian domestic flight – lesson learned!

Unless your pram is essential for your young baby, or already well-used, consider buying a less expensive pram or stroller before leaving, or at your destination. Cheap umbrella strollers are fine for toddlers and can cost as little as $30 from a US discount store like Target. It’s an option definitely worth considering!

Can I hire a stroller at Disneyland?

Are blow up plane cushions for toddlers worth it?

The answer is yes, IF they are allowed on your long-haul flight. Blow up pillows that wedge on the floor between the seat row in front of you and your seat, otherwise known as toddler beds are now quite popular. These flight seat wedge cushions make it possible for larger babies and toddlers to stretch out and sleep more comfortably.

The big question is – are they even allowed? The answer is – sometimes. Some airlines see them as a safety hazard (blocking an aisle). Some allow them on window rows only. We’ve even had an airline not even allow our large blow-up travel pillows, so it really depends on the airline and their policies.

Should I buy a travel pillow for myself?

YES! Whatever you do, take some kind of travel pillow. Travel blankets can be great for everyone too if you have the space.

Travel pillows have so many uses – even if it’s just to sit your feet on if you are vertically challenged like me! Most airlines don’t supply a pillow or blanket. Buy a travel pillow before you go if you can (Kmart Australia often have some great ones), as airport shops do charge a premium. Either way, just get one – you’ll thank yourself later.

How do I find out if airlines allow parenting aids?

When it comes to parenting aids on flights – prams, car seats, bassinettes, cushions – the truth is, airlines are going to airline. Some may ban certain things, some offer everything.

Decide how important these things are to your family, do some research and then book and pre-warn your airlines accordingly. Be sure to remember that every USA connecting airline you book may have different rules. Don’t be afraid to call up each airline for their current policies.

The best advice I can give you is draw up a spreadsheet or note and list the airlines and what they allow BEFORE you book, so that you don’t get caught out.

Other fun travel accessories for kids

A quick online Google will bring up all kinds of gadgets and airport ride ons to make kid travel life a little more fun. There are carry on suitcases that convert into scooters, Trunki pull-along carry on suitcases, large suitcases with a built-in toddler seat on top and more and more innovative designs appearing all the time. Whilst expensive toys, they are probably worth some consideration – particularly if you do a lot of travelling, or have a long airport wait during your travels.

Travel tip: At the airport, many USA security points require everyone to remove their shoes for the x-ray machine, so it’s a lot easier to manage if the kids are wearing slip-on shoes rather than lace ups.

During your flight

How do I keep my kids happy whilst traveling?

Sometimes the best laid plans of keeping kids happy in airports and onboard flights works, sometimes it doesn’t, and that’s okay.

I’ve often found that you don’t mess with what already works at home. Take what keeps them happy at home when you want some quiet time.

Take their ipad or other fun tablet or gaming device along – whatever is going to keep them occupied. Travel day can be a super-treat day!

Do they love Bluey? Download every episode before your flight. They’re into Coco Melon but you hate it? Bring it anyway. I guarantee you’ll love it onboard if it keeps them happy. They love to play Minecraft? Have it installed for offline play. Don’t forget their headphones, charge cords and a USA adapter. Some USA flights have actual power plug sockets. Most others have USB plugs at least.

There’s also usually a kid’s channel and games on most airline’s onboard entertainment systems.

Toss the normal screen time rule out the window if that’s what’s working for your kids. They will barely touch their devices during your days at Disneyland anyhow. Remember, no one knows who you are on board. There are no parenting rules or judgement other than keep the kids happy, occupied and/or asleep to get to your destination!

Leave fiddly items at home

Whilst crafts are great they probably won’t keep the kids happy for hours on end on an airplane. Kids tend to drop small loose pieces on the floor which roll under seats and create drama, plus they often require a lot of noisy supervision.

That said, if colouring books or crafts are your toddlers happy place, even better if they are light, disposable and cheap so you can dump them later, go for it. Just be prepared to be constantly retrieving crayons or coloured pencils from that cramped floor space!

The basic rule of thumb is – go with the flow of whatever works for your child.

What do I do if my child is crying on a flight?

Nothing other than what you normally do to pacify them. Reassure them and tend to their needs.

Every person on that flight has been a a child once and many have had a child of their own. They get it and if they don’t, just ignore them. Babies and children have just as much right to be on board as anyone else.

For babies and kids, especially kids with heightened sensory perceptions, ADHD, Autism or other challenges a flight can be a confronting, noisy and scary place. I know it’s easy to say, but your child comes first. Those adults seated around you will be just fine. Most people on board are understanding of how difficult it can be travelling with children. The others usually have white noise on their headphones and barely hear a thing anyhow! If you’re feeling uncomfortable with a fellow passenger’s behaviour, tell a flight attendant so they can support you.

Why do babies cry so much on flights?

Apart from the obvious reasons – food, fatigue, noise, scary new people, sometimes nothing at all – during takeoff it can be that their little ears block, just like ours do. And that can be painful! Make sure you have a dummy, pacifier or bottle for your baby or toddler to suck on during takeoff and landing approaches to unblock their ears. Breastfeeding is also quite doable when your baby strapped onto your front with the airline infant seatbelt.

How do I unblock my child’s ears on a flight?

To avoid kids’ ears being blocked on take-off and landing, the obvious solution is simply telling them to swallow to clear their ears. But that won’t work for all kids. Chewy sweets and lollies can also work well for older children (not under 3’s as it’s a choking hazard of course). That said, I once had my four-year-old throw up on takeoff, so use this sweets technique according to your child!

Take a change of clothes

Our throwing up adventure on board leads me to suggesting that you also dress your child in layers. Alternatively, take a change of clothes on board with you. Also extra nappies for infants. Not just for comfort, layers help if they do happen to throw up, spill a drink, say they’re cold or hot, etc.

A baby in front of us once ended up systematically loosing his wet clothes right down to his diaper – mind you, he was still smiling happily at everyone and didn’t seem to mind a bit!

Take lots of snacks!

The same thing goes for snacks. Take a big selections of snacks that you know they love (but won’t hype them up!). Just make sure you leave any kind of fresh food or fruit onboard or dump it in the provided bins at the airport, as you can’t take it into the USA.

Don’t forget your child’s favourite kind of drinking bottle (empty any drink bottles into the sink provided at airport security. You can always refill them again afterwards).

Travel tip – if you can avoid putting your bags in the airplane overhead locker during your flight, do. That way you can easily access everything you need right at your feet. We almost never use overhead lockers on flights, and my kids are teenagers now! Plus it eliminates that overhead locker scrum when those seatbelt signs go off after landing. Take at least one soft scrunchy back pack or bag that will fit under an aircraft seat in front of you.

Be as kind to yourself as you can be when flying with children. The name of the game is keeping you and your kids as comfortable and happy as possible. You’ll be having an awesome holiday at Disney in no time!

A brand-new platinum Mickey Mouse statue, complete with Walt’s famous Mickey quote, “It all started with a mouse” is located at the top of Main Street USA.

There’s a new Minnie Mouse platinum statue with the classic Disney quote “A dream is a wish your heart makes” located next to the Disneyland castle. Everyone wants to take their photo with the new statues!

Oswald The Lucky Rabbit

You’ll also find platinum character statues in several of the Disneyland Resort gift shops. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit can be found in the main Disney California Adventure gift shop. The massive World Of Disney store in Downtown Disney has the largest Disney 100 merchandise display with both Mickey and Minnie platinum statues inside!

The special Disney 100 marching band parade

Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Daisy, Chip and Dale, and Pluto all have special formal platinum and purple outfits for the D100 celebrations. They look very smart indeed, marching down the street from the castle in their special Disney 100 big-band parade! Look out for it around the middle of the day – you’ll find an event schedule in your Disneyland App.

Disney 100 platinum monorail

There’s a special platinum Disney 100 monorail decorated with all the main Disney characters dressed in their special celebration outfits – it looks amazing! We rode it from the end of Downtown Disney all the way to Tomorrowland – it’s not every day you get to take a ride in a D100 platinum monorail!

From the huge platinum medallions scattered around the parks to the purple and silver banners lining the streets, there’s no mistaking that Disneyland Resort California is in full celebration mode. Disney100 is huge, and amazing to experience in person – Disneyland never looked so special!

The Magic Happens Parade is back!

The Magic Happens Parade is back and more gorgeous than ever! Pull up a spot on Mains Street USA for the best view of this fantastic parade. With Mickey at the helm, all the other popular Disney characters we know and love feature in this joyful parade of amazingly colourful floats. Each float celebrates memorable moments from the Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studio. The Magic Happens Parade is definitely a don’t-miss!

Brand new Disneyland D100 night time shows

A really exciting part of the celebrations is the new Disney 100 nighttime shows happening at both California Disneyland Resort parks.

What is the Disneyland Park Disney100 new show?

At Disneyland Park there’s a new nighttime spectacular, “Wondrous Journeys”, and amazing display of Disney characters and movies spanning the entire 100 years of Disney! Everyone’s favourites are featured in this full colour projection extravaganza which lights up across the original Sleeping Beauty Disneyland Castle.

The Wondrous Journeys show is accompanied by the spectacular Disneyland fireworks display, especially designed to complement the projections. To check if the fireworks will be happening the day you visit, you can see the day’s entertainment schedule on the official Disney website here.

Where is the best place to watch the Disneyland Fireworks?

For the best view of the Disneyland fireworks, be sure to arrive around an hour to at least a half-hour early to stake out a good spot right in front of the Disneyland Sleeping Beauty castle. This is a great central vantage point to witness the amazing D100 fireworks and projections show. This area is roped off soon before the fireworks and is a perfectly positioned view of the show.

If you don’t make it in time to be at the very front, don’t worry – you can still see the fireworks from all the way up the Disneyland Main Street and surrounding the Disnelyland Castle.

In front of It’s A Small World ride is a great vantage point to watch the fireworks too, and it’s less crowded.

You can even spot the Disneyland fireworks from some nearby hotel windows!

There is also a small, roped off private viewing area for the Disneyland fireworks, however entry is only available either by invitation, or as part of a very expensive Disneyland VIP package – it’s best just turn up a little early for the same view in front of the castle!

The Wondrous Journey’s Disneyland show is gorgeous to watch and is a very special experience to enjoy together with your friends and family. Don’t be tempted to miss it to hit the rides whilst everyone is watching the show – it’s a quintessential part of the Disneyland California experience.

What is the Disneyland California Adventure Park Disney100 new show?

Disneyland California Adventure Park are celebrating Disney 100 with their own brand-new nighttime water show, World of Colour – ONE.

The appearance of historical footage of Walt Disney talking about his Disney stories vision certainly brings a nostalgic tear to the eye of all Disney lovers.

This beautiful water fountain and projection show challenges guests to “Dare to make a difference”. In true Disney story-telling style, a sweeping tale unfolds. World of Color – ONE highlights the important moments of favourite Disney stories and characters where they accepted the challenge to make a difference for the greater good.

As well as touching moments, there are also some very exciting features during World of Color, such as Star Wars and the Avengers! When the theme songs ring out along with the light show fountain spires, the crowd erupts!

Where is the best place to watch the Disney California Adventure World of Color show?

Be sure to reserve your spot for the first showing of World of Color ONE on the Disneyland App as soon as you hit the Disney California Adventure park, but should you forget to or the bookings are full, don’t despair. You can still watch the show from the sides of the roped off viewing area, including from the Pixar Pier bridge entrance.

How to watch World of Color even when bookings are closed on the Disneyland app

Turn up about ten minutes early for the second showing which commences right on the park close time, and you should still be able to snag yourself a good viewing spot right at the waterfront viewing area. Because there usually isn’t as many bookings or attendances for the second show, they let in the waiting public in once the people with bookings have entered.

But don’t get too close to the front unless you’re prepared to get quite wet! It’s all part of the fun.

Are there any new rides at Disneyland in 2023?

There was much excitement at the re-opening or Mickey’s Toontown right in time for Disney 100, as well as the unveiling of a fantastic new ride – Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway!

It’ may surprise you to learn that Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is the first ride-through attraction that features both Minnie and Mickey Mouse at Disneyland. After all – “it all started with a mouse!” as Walt famously said.

What is Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway ride like?

“Oh no – I think I hit the track switch!” Mickey Mouse cries. Goofy your engine driver watches in dismay as his engine suddenly loses all its carriages – which you just happen to be sitting in – and chaos reigns supreme!

The awesome new Disneyland ride Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is located in the centre of Mickey’s Toontown. Half the fun is winding your way through the highly-themed queue with it’s Mickey memorabilia and scenes. There’s lots of fun surprises – watch out for the ghost in the mirror( I still haven’t seen it!)! But when you step aboard Goofy’s train on the actual ride – ah, that’s when the real fun begins!

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is a high-tech fun experience. A “Dark” ride (this term doesn’t mean it’s actually dark inside, just that it’s contained within a building), don’t be fooled into thinking because this new Disneyland ride is located within Mickey’s Toontown that this is a ride just for little kids. This ride is so much fun for all ages (and it happens to be one of my new personal favourite rides too!).

The Runaway Railway ride theme uses a clever mix of solid “real” character models with projections that animate and bring them to life, and also actual big-screen animations. It’s fabulously immersive – Disney don’t do things by halves. With more than a sprinkle of Disney magic included, it all comes together perfectly for a truly realistic, hilarious – but not too wild for the little ones – experience that the whole family can enjoy.

What’s new at Mickey’s Toontown?

Mickey’s Toontown was first opened at Disneyland in 1993 and was closed for renovations in March 2022. The newly refurbished Toontown was reopened as part of the D100 celebrations in March 2023.

The new Toontown renovations include new playground areas for the very youngest of Disneyland guests. With no curbs to impede wheelchairs and wide, easy to use slides, the Toontown playground areas are now truly accessible ones.

New features such as Goofy’s House and Donald’s Boat offer lots of interactive fun, and the general area now has real trees for shade and more benches for parents, grandparents and carers to relax (or recover!) on.

There are more interactive activities than ever for all at Mickeys Toontown, including the gorgeous central fountain which encourages water play.

What are the new Disney 100 snacks?

From fairy floss to silver and purple popcorn, there are enough new Disney100 snacks to sink a ship! Caramel apples coated in silver and purple, Rice Krispy treats, Mickey D100 ice creams and so much more, you’ll be struggling to try them all during your Disneyland vacation – but you can give it a good try!

My favourite was the new Disney 100 Lemon Chiffon Pie, available in several locations. I got mine at Flo’s V8 Cafe in Cars Land.

There’s a pretty special Mickey D100 sipper and straw clip to look out for around the parks too! These make fantastic and unique souvenirs.

What is the new Disney 100 merchandise available?

Disney100 merch is all over the park – and it’s all absolutely gorgeous! Clothing, homewares, plushies, pins and other collectibles…there’s something for everyone.

Our tradition is that the second we walk in the park we need to get some new Mickey or Minnie ears to remember our Disneyland trip, and there are several new Disney 100 Mickey ear designs in both the traditional cap style or headband style to collect.

The D100 clothing range is stunning. Oversized white sweatshirts with silver detail, a new purple Minnie Mouse design, tracksuits, hoodies, t-shirts…and of course lots of adorable children’s outfits.

The Disney 100 merch list goes on and on. The platinum and purple together looks good on anything and everything and you just want to get your hands on some of that special gear before it’s no longer available. After all, 100 years of Disney is incredibly special. Say goodbye to your holiday budget and throw your wallet in the Disney gift shop’s general direction!

How long will Disney 100 be celebrated at Disneyland?

Disney 100 celebrations kicked off on the 27th of January 2023 and are still in full swing right now, mid way through 2023.

Celebrations and events are expected to continue throughout the year, with the actual date of the Disney 100 anniversary being October 17. What a big day that will be!

There will be special events happening at all of the Disney parks around the world to help celebrate this momentous occasion, but no Disneyland can ever be the same as the original and the best – California Disneyland! The very place where you can even still see the lamp on in the window of Walt Disney’s own apartment on Main Street if you go looking. This is the Disneyland that was all started by a mouse…and oh, how we love him!
