 How do I buy a Tokyo Disney Disability pass?

You can only buy a Tokyo Disneyland disability entrance ticket at the official Tokyo Disney Resort website or at an official Tokyo Disney Hotel ticket counter.

Where should I buy our other Tokyo Disney Tickets?

You can buy non-disability standard entrance tickets for the rest of your family or friends online also on the official website, or at the official third party discount seller Klook.

How do I enter Disneyland or DisneySea with my Disability ticket?

After buying your Disney entrance tickets, upon arrival at the Tokyo Disney park  produce your ticket barcode on your mobile phone or paper ticket.
You will need to produce proof of your disability to enter.

You will still need to Register inside the park at your first ride.

(Make sure all members of your party who may wish to ride with you – up to five people – are also present so they can also be noted as your ride group)

Are Tokyo Disney Resort disability tickets cheaper?

Yes, Tokyo Disney Resort Disability one day passes are cheaper than standard one day passes. They are around AUD$25 and USD$11 cheaper than standard Tokyo Disneyland day passes, or roughly 20% cheaper.

Your accompanying Carer can also buy a disability one day pass. Only one accompanying person may buy a disabled pass per disabled pass visitor.

What certificate or paperwork do I need to prove I am disabled?

There isn’t a great deal of information, other than eligible certificates should be a “certificate for” their disability, including physical, developmental (neurodiverse such as Autism / ASD and ADHD), neurological, cognitive and intellectual / mental disabilities.
This implies official-issued documents such as government documents.

That said, there are numerous incidences of NDIS or Doctors letters that are accepted as proof for DAS at Tokyo Disneyland.

Australian Compaion & Carers Cards

Australian NSW Companion Cards and even Carers pension cards would have a strong case, particularly if they include a photograph. This is because they are issued by the state or federal governments.

What disability proof worked for us:

NDIS original paperwork for Australians carries weight – state that it is a government document.

Bring an accompanying doctor’s letter on their letterhead stating queuing may be difficult/not possible. MOST LIKELY this alone will work.

I asked a Cast Member if you can try to register with just a doctors letter and was met with some doubt. It can depend on who you register with!

Any kind of carers card, Australian Companion Card or pass with a photo would also be helpful.

UK Blue Cards

UK Blue Cards have been used with success due to them being a government issued identification card with photograph.

Japan has a photo pass system and may assume other countries do also. Explain that your government doesn’t issue the same.

Personally, if I only had a doctor’s letter as proof I would buy a regular Park entrance ticket and not a Disability entrance ticket – just in case the doctor’s letter is rejected as not enough proof (so that you don’t risk losing your entry ticket).

Do I need to take original certificates or can I take photocopies or digital scans?

Only take originals, as copies probably won’t be accepted. Officially they must be originals.

You should always carry your passport in Japan – it’s the law for tourists.

For Disney Disability Registration, you should bring photo id (so, your passport for example) if there is no photo id on your disability certificate or other proof – they probably won’t check it, but just in case.

Do I need to supply a Japanese translation of my disability certificate or medical letter?

No. Most don’t. There doesn’t seem to be a requirement for Japanese translations as then this would be a copy, so not admissable as proof.

That said, if my only documentation was a doctor’s letter, a translation may help strengthen your claim.

Can I buy Tokyo Disney multi-day disability tickets?

No. Disability tickets are one day passes only.

Is there Tokyo Disney Resort disabled ride access if I have already bought a standard ticket?

Yes. This is called the Disability Access Service pass. You can add this to your standard park access ticket by registering for the Disability Access Service add-on after you enter the park.

This is obtained by presenting a disability certificate or other acceptable documentation (see above) to one of several park locations, including any ride operator for your first ride. They will register you, your carer and your other group (family) members in the system width you so you can all ride together.

After you have registered for the first time you don’t need to do this process again that day. You can just request your DAS ride return time from ride operators at each ride.

Can I register for Disability Access Services for more than one day at a time?

The official website says you need to register each day at each park separately, on the day you attend. It is each day, each park.

Do I need a Carer with me to be registered for a Tokyo Disneyland disability pass?

Yes. If you have visual, mental, or developmental disabilities you must have an able-bodied person accompanying you in order to get a registered disabled pass.

You need one carer per disabled person for some rides like Space Mountain. So if you are a single parent and have two disabled children for example, or are two parents but are outnumbered with disabled children , consider registering only ONE disabled child if you can safely manage more than two on your own. The family group of up to five more people join you anyway.

Can my family or group board with me when I’m using my Disability Access Service (DAS)?

Yes. Up to five other people can board the ride with you when using your DAS. Up to nine people can go with you at a Character Greeting. You’ll need to have all their passes scanned with yours when entering the park with a disability ticket / registering for DAS.

From the Tokyo Disney website:

”At an attraction, this service is valid for up to six persons (yourself and five members of your party).”

How do I use a disability pass to skip the ride queue?

If you have bought a Tokyo Disney Resort Disability entrance ticket then once it is verified at the entrance gates then you will need to register again. After your initial registration at the first ride, reserve each ride by attending the ride and make yourself known to the ride queue attendants. You will receive a return time that equals the current queue wait time.

If you have a standard Park entry ticket, then you will need to Register for a Disability Access Pass at your first ride, once for that day.
After you are Registered, then you only need to make what is called a Disability Reservation or Return Time at each ride you want to go on.

Speak to the ride attendants first to Register and once your ticket is digitally linked as a disability pass (as will be your Carer’s and you’ll also need to present all the passes of the family or group members you’re visiting with) then – then after registration you only need to make a ride reservation by attending that ride and receiving a return time.

Do Tokyo Disney Cast Members speak English?

Not all cast members speak English, however cast members do have translation devices or access to them.

When requesting Disability Access to a ride it may be wise to use Google translate or translate a note into Japanese prior, to give or show attendants in case of language barriers.

What happens during the Tokyo Disney Disability Registration Process?

The process takes around ten-fifteen minutes and is a one-off procedure for that day in that park.

If you have a Tokyo Disney Resort Disability entrance ticket your papers will be checked at the front gates. You will still need to do your official DAS Registration at your first ride.

If you have a standard park entrance ticket then you enter the park as normal and register at your first ride.

You may need to queue to register, particularly if you are registering at a popular ride first-thing in the morning such as Beauty and the Beast. I would advise registering at a less popular ride with a shorter queue first.

Cast members will ask to see documentary proof of the disabled person’s disability (see above).

They will photograph the disabled person and register their pass. They will also register/scan the passes of all the accompanying family/friends, so make sure everyone is there for registration.

After registration you will make your first ride Disability Reservation.

How do you make a Disability ride reservation at each ride?

Seek out any ride queue Cast Member who will direct you to the appropriate Cast Member. They usually hold a light stick.

The Cast Member will check the disabled person’s photograph on their system and ask the Carer of the disabled person questions to make sure the disabled person will be able to physically ride the ride and also be able to safely exit the ride in an emergency.

Appropriate questions will also be written in English etc. on cards, and will be about sitting, walking and navigating stairs capabilities.

They may ask if the disabled person is capable of being able to walk or be supported by your Carer out of a ride for safely.

You will be given a return time to come back to the ride so that you don’t have to wait in the queue. The return time will exactly equal the current ride queue time as signposted – a wait time identical to the current wait time for that ride queue.

You will then be free to leave to spend that time elsewhere instead of standing in a queue.

This process is not regarded as a fast pass like a Tokyo Disney paid Premier Pass or the USA Genie+ pass, but a queue place holder.

Can we do other rides whilst waiting for our disability ride return time?

Yes you can provided you can make it back in time (strictly within 15 minutes of your return time).

You should be able to book other ride passes such as a Premier or Priority Pass – you can certainly try. We had some success but also some system blocks.

You can do other rides queuing as a normal park pass guest, however you can only use your Disability Pass one ride at a time, and only once per ride.

Where do I go at my ride queue return time?

You go to the ride Priority Lane – the same place you go to if you have a paid Premier Pass or a 40th Anniversary Priority Pass.

Same as the other Tokyo Disney passes, you will have a pass with barcode listed on you official Tokyo Disney Resort App.

When you return, scan the barcode of your disabled ticket holder’s pass FIRST at the Premier Access/Priority Pass lane. Cast members will need to be notified that you are disabled entries and verify your disabled persons first scan pass with their own device. Then all other members of your party/family group scan as normal.

What happens if I miss my return time or are running late?

You have up to 15 minutes ONLY after your return time passes to turn up to the ride. So you can arrive back up to fifteen minutes late after your stated DAS pass return time. Cast Members expect you to be on time. You cannot enter any earlier.

Will my Tokyo Disney Disabled Pass get me into Fantasy Springs?

Yes, Fantasy Springs is open to all and you can use your DAS pass on the rides there.

Can I use my DAS Pass to skip the queue for Fantasy Springs rides?

Yes, you can use your DAS pass for a return-time to use the Priority lanes.

What  Tokyo Disneyland Holiday Planning Facebook Group members say…

Okay I just did this last week.

You have to set it up each day at the park, at your first ride you need to use it.

At that time you will show your proof – being in US we showed a doctors letter.

They will scan tickets and get things set up for you. This will take at least five to ten minutes to do. And that’s if they don’t need to find someone else to do it.

After that it should be linked in the app and you’ll basically use it as a premier pass.

You will only have 30 minutes to use it after it is time.

At each ride they will have you confirm a series of saftey basically saying pass holder can evacuate in case of an emergency – they can walk down 200 stairs, climb a ladder, etc. Also that they can hold themselves up right m, things like that.

Next ride will be a little quicker but it still usually took 5 mins to get the return time, sometimes they had to find the right person, grab the book with instructions, etc.

I started keeping Google translate open and using the message “I need to get a disability access return time for my daughter.” Because asking verbally in English was not always immediately understood.

If you need a wheelchair it can get more complicated. We used a stroller as a wheelchair which was not always easy. – Cassie.

Our family is from the U.S. and just returned from Japan spending 4 days at Disneyland and DisneySea. We bought our tickets at full price and did not do a DAS discounted ticket. We used the DAS pass which allowed us to skip waiting in the queue line with everyone else but we still had to wait for the same amount of time outside the queue. To get the DAS pass we needed to show proof of my son’s ASD. To do this I had his primary care physician write a letter on her letterhead stating that my son has ASD and has a difficult time staying with the group and standing in line. Once inside the park, we went to the first attraction we wanted to ride and let them know we wanted to register for a DAS pass. They then asked to see the letter from his doctor and they scanned all of our tickets into a digital DAS pass that was now linked with our park tickets. We were then issued a return time. When that time came we would return to the Priority queue where our park tickets were scanned and we were admitted onto the attraction. To ride other attractions you then go to a cast member at each attraction you want to ride and ask for a DAS pass return time. The cast members have a transtator device which makes communicating with them really easy. They are all really helpful and once you do a few rides it becomes really easy. – Ann.

…we call it DAS disabilty access service. they will ask you to show proof (disability card, doctor’s note etc) that someone in your group has a disability.

after you enter the park, you go to any ride cast member and tell them that you will register for DAS. you show your proof and they take the picture of the person who has the disability. you do the registration once.

you have to tell the attraction cast member that you will use DAS, they will explain safety procedures and you get a return time.

you can do whatever you want while waiting for a return time. you can queue in line for a different ride. you can only use das for one ride at a time. – Group member.

Can I wait somewhere else instead of standing in line or queuing until boarding a ride?

Yes, if you are unable to stand or wait in a ride queue, there are separate ride waiting areas for conditions such as if you have a temporary disability (like a broken leg), are disabled, pregnant, wheelchair bound or elderly.

If you don’t have a DAS pass you will be separated from your group to wait in a special separate area and your group will wait in line as normal and then you can rejoin your party at their ride boarding time.

Can I bring food into Disneyland and DisneySea if we have strict dietary requirements?

Yes you can, and several park restaurants have microwaves available to you.

Are vegetarian meals available at Disney in Tokyo?

Yes, you can get vegetarian meals and a “Special Dietary Menu” at many park restaurants which avoid allergens.

Using a pram or stroller as a wheelchair

If you obtain a special sticker you can have your pram treated as a wheelchair which give you much closer access to rides. Like a wheelchair, staff will transport it to the end of rides for you to. You can also get access to special wheelchair viewing areas in theatres and at shows and parades.

Is there a special place for those in wheelchairs to view shows and parades?

Yes, and also for prams being used as wheelchairs. One group member has mentioned this area is open to all DAS pass holders. Contact nearby Cast Members to show you how and where to go to access it.

Can I use the Tokyo Disney Resort monorail or buses with a wheelchair?

Yes. There are elevators at each station, and carriage numbers 3 and 4 have spaces for wheelchairs. Staff can help with a ramp if necessary. Ramps are also available to board the free Disney Resort Cruiser bus service.

The island of Bali is a gorgeous Indonesian jewel that deserves so much more time than just one day, but if that’s all the time you have to go out and see Bali, then this Bali tour is for you!

We had never visited Bali before and for our first trip we only had one free day to go out and explore. We really wanted to see what Bali was like outside of our resort too! We certainly hit the jackpot with our tour of choice which included fun activities, sightseeing and visits to iconic Bali tourist spots!

When I first started searching for a Bali Day Tour, I knew that the main points I wanted was that it was stress-free and also suitable for all ages. What is in a Bali one day tour itinerary?

Our Bali Tour’s main focus for us was the tunnel tubing but our day out offered us so much more than we expected!

The tour was about three hours driving in total including our Grand Hyatt Bali resort pick up and return in Nusa Dua. The drive itself was really fascinating, passing by on-road stores, busy markets and numerous temples. Steady traffic flowed along with moped bikes darting all around alongside of us!

As we moved into the mountains, the landscape transformed into beautiful rainforest and lush jungle views. It really felt like we were experiencing both Bali’s local town atmosphere and natural wonders. This was exactly the holiday adventure that I wanted for us!

Our One Day Bali Tour Itinerary

Tour Start: 10:00am

Pick up and departure from Nusa Dua by private car. We spent approximately one and a half hours driving through Bali’s city streets of Denpasar winding up into the mountains and Ubud.

Bali Private Day Tour Stop 1

Tourist Attraction – Civet Cat poo coffee plantation

First stop: The Cantik Agriculture 2 Coffee Plantation and Coffee Tasting – a shady coffee plantation visit which showcased the production of Civet Cat poop coffee – Kopi Luwak.

We were introduced to our guide and strolled through the shady groves of the plantation. We were able to watch the coffee hand-grinding and roasting process and were shown a native Civet Cat in a cage. We asked if the poop to produce the coffee was farmed and were told that the majority of Kopi Luwak comes from Civet Cat droppings collected in the wild, which sounded much nicer for the Civet Cats.

We then moved on to the tables in the tasting area to try some coffee. We sampled about 10 different types of tea and coffee for free and to sample cat poop coffee is 50,000 IDR (about $5 AUD) a cup. The Kopi Luwak (poop coffee!) isn’t as bad as it sounds! The coffee is made from the inner bean of the Civet Cat poo – it actually tastes pretty good!

When we were finished tasting we visited their big coffee store and bought a couple of different coffee packets to take home with us – including Kopi Luwak of course! 💩 

We spent 50 minutes at the coffee plantation in total. We bid goodbye to our friendly guide and met back up with our driver to carry on with our day trip.

Bali Private Day Tour Stop 2

Tourist Activity – Ubud Cave Tubing & Pandawa Cafe

Next up on our day tour was something we had really been looking forward to – Cave tubing!

Located at Nukuwera Pandawa Cafe in Ubud, this activity included all the necessary safety equipment and also lunch afterwards in a beautiful open-air pavilion on the side of a ravine set within rice paddies.

To start our Cave Tubing activity, we took a short ride in a buggy to the upper start point of the water channel. In no time at all we stepped down into the waist-deep water and climbed aboard our tubes. We all linked up together with our feet on each others tubes, and off we went!

Cave Tubing is an activity suitable for all ages – we saw one Dad carrying his toddler with him! It’s really fun to float along on inflatable tubes down a slow-moving canal. Along the way you float through several short tunnels under the rice paddies. There were a couple of cave sections where you had to duck down, and only two tiny “rapids” sections at the very end. The water is a safe adult waist-depth all the way along, so if someone falls off their tube (no one did, it’s so gentle), they can just stand up.

Our tubing guide was really entertaining and had us laughing all the way. He had eyes on us the whole time and the activity never felt unsafe. Our guide often offered to take photos of us too!

When we reached the end we climbed out. There were warm basic showers in the locker area and towels too. We were soon showered and dressed again, and ready for lunch.

The cafe itself was a gorgeous bamboo pavilion set on the side of the gorge. There are spots to take some lovely photos there.

We were very hungry after our tubing adventure, and the included lunch was very nice. There was the choice of noodles or rice and bottled water was provided. We were able to buy some soft drinks and ice creams too. We sat and took our time eating, enjoying the beautiful scenery.

We spent two hours and ten minutes in total at this activity, including tubing and eating lunch. Then we headed back up through the rice terraces to the car where our driver was ready to continue on to our last stop.

Bali Private Day Tour Stop 3

Tegallalang Rice Terrace

The Tegallalang Rice Terrace is a famous Bali tourism spot where you can buy an access ticket (Adults 50,000 Kids 30,000 IDR – this was included in our tour price) to the area to see and go for walks through the rice paddies.

There is also a lot of fun activities you can do for an extra charge. If you’re feeling daring you can do a zip line or take a Aladdin Carpet ride across the valley. We opted for the slightly more sedate option and decided to do the iconic Bali tourist experience. We hired some big floaty dresses (100,000 IDR – about $10 AUD) and did the single Bali Swing (200,000 IDR – about $20 AUD). You could also choose to do a couple swing or a bed swing.

The Bali Swing was so fun, and the swing assistants were great at their job too. When they whispered that a tip would be good, we gave them 100,000 IDR (about $10 AUD) and they did a mini photo session for us too! 

It’s all very touristy at the Tegallalang Rice Terrace, but it’s not over-crowded, and a basic must-do Bali tourist attraction for first-timers like us. There are also lots of tourist shops located along the road at this tourist spot.

We spent an hour in total at the Tegallalang Rice Terrace and by this time we were all tired but really happy with our day. We decided to head back to the hotel – with a quick souvenir shop stop along the way!

Tour end: 6:50pm

We arrived back at The Grand Hyatt Bali just in time to get changed for dinner. We tipped the driver goodbye, 200,000 IDR (About $20 AUD). I wasn’t really sure how much to tip, so hopefully that was enough!

We really couldn’t have asked for a better exploration day out for our introduction to Bali – and it was incredible value. I had only expected the tubing and maybe some sightseeing along some rice paddies, so we were thrilled to be able to do so much in one day.

We arrived back from our tour falling in love with this beautiful country and determined to return to continue our Bali adventures – we are already making plans to visit a temple and the monkey forest upon our return!

We had such a fun time in Bali even though we only stayed 3 nights. Our accommodation at the Grand Hyatt Bali was incredible, and our day tour gave us a true appreciation of how beautiful and fun Bali is.

Do Australians need a visa for Bali?

No, not in the traditional sense, but they do need a digital e-Visa on arrival, known as an “e-VOA” or “VOA”. There are also separate tourist and environmental fees to be paid. All can be done online and in advance as long as you are at least 48 hours out from your trip. If it all seems too complicated or you forget, don’t worry! As long as you have a valid Australian passport you can do it upon arrival.

Is Bali safe for kids?

One thing I quickly discovered in Bali was that there were plenty of other families on vacation! Bali is hugely popular with Australian families, and we felt instantly welcomed and comfortable. Our hosting resort The Grand Hyatt Bali was gated, as was the general Nusa Dua luxury tourist area. We always felt safe and were able to walk around securely – even after dark.

Do you tip in Bali?

Yes, you do tip in Bali. Although tipping is not compulsory, it plays an important part in helping to support the amazingly lovely Balinese people who spoil us lucky Aussie tourists so thoroughly!

How much should I tip in Bali?

I wasn’t really sure how much to tip, but wherever I did people seemed to gracefully receive and appreciate it. I tipped our first driver $5 AUD for our ten-minute Denpasar Airport trip as I had forgotten to get Bali cash at the airport upon our arrival. The driver didn’t seem to mind the Australian cash despite my apologies! For our day tour, I tipped the Bali Swing attendants at the Rice Terrace 100,000 IDR (about $10 AUD) and I gave our day trip driver 200,000 Indonesian Rupiah (IDR), which is roughly $20 AUD.

We’ve just arrived back from our first ever trip to Bali and it really feels like we hit the Bali holiday resort jackpot straight away! We just spent 3 nights hosted at the 5-Star Grand Hyatt Bali, and we all had such a wonderful time!

The Grand Hyatt Bali is a gorgeous luxury vacation resort located on the East Coast of Bali’s Bukit Peninsula in Nusa Dua. The resort is nestled within exotic tropical gardens, fronting a beautiful white sandy beach – this truly is a Bali paradise!

Family resort accommodation in Bali

There is luxury accommodation to suit everyone at the Grand Hyatt Bali, with a range of rooms, villas and suites – 636 rooms, to be exact! Centrally located deluxe facilities abound, including swimming pools, bars and restaurants – plus kids’ clubs and a shopping arcade! In fact, this resort is so well serviced that you could spend your entire Bali family holiday here without even stepping foot outside of the resort!

Getting around the resort is easy

Even though the resort is spread out over several acres, most features are either centrally located or within easy walking distance along paved paths. In addition, there are resort shuttles which circulate regularly, both around the resort and even over to the nearby Bali Collection shopping mall. Plus, you’re always only steps away from that gorgeous beach!

Arriving at the Grand Hyatt Bali

With the Bali Airport just 15 minutes away, you can get right down to the business of relaxation and fun soon after you land! It felt like in no time at all we had been whisked away by the Grand Hyatt Bali shuttle driver, as we left the rush of the bustling Denpasar city streets behind us and entered the security gates of peaceful Nusa Dua.

From the moment we drove through the gates and down the tree-lined drive of the Grand Hyatt Bali resort our 5-star holiday experience began in earnest! Hotel attendants met us at the car, spiriting away our bags and gently ushering us down the elegant walkway. Two traditionally dressed Balinese girls gracefully greeted us along the way – already we felt the excitement and enchantment of an exotic, luxurious Bali holiday!

A seamless check in experience followed, where we were seated and welcomed with cool drinks, hand cloths and warm smiles.

What is a Grand Hyatt Bali suite like?

We were escorted to our room and were thrilled to find that the Grand Hyatt Bali had arranged a Grand Executive Suite King for us!

The Grand Executive Suite was luxury personified. A spacious 141 square meters of climate-controlled deluxe accommodation. Our one-bedroom suite consisted of a generously sized open-plan foyer, lounge and dining area. The decadent bedroom and ensuite opened off the lounge, plus an additional toilet was situated off the foyer. A large private balcony ran the length of the entire suite and was also accessible from the bedroom.

The balcony had an outdoor setting and featured beautiful views. It looked out over tropical gardens to the twinkling blue Indian Ocean. A lovely spot for a coffee in the morning.

The lounge featured comfortable lounges and a huge flat screen TV. It was a great place to kick back and relax after an exciting day of fun.

In addition to a dining setting the dining area had a desk, a well-stocked mini bar fridge, tea and coffee amenities, and a convenient coffee machine.

The bedroom featured a four poster style King-sized bed romantically draped – it felt like waking up in a movie with the sea breeze drifting in from the balcony. There was a dressing room/walk in robe with a safe, iron, robes and slippers.

The bedroom led into the huge bathroom with separate shower and step-up marble bath. The bath had – wait for it – its own TV with a remote control! So that you can relax in the bath and watch TV, of course!

Our suite was a one bedroom with an extra bed added to the lounge area, however if you needed more space for more children or family, interconnecting twin or standard rooms are available to add to bookings.

A Bali Foodie Paradise

There are mouth-watering restaurants in abundance at the Grand Hyatt Bali and enough delicious cuisine to satisfy any budding Bali Foodie!

In each restaurant the service was impeccable. We were always asked if we had any allergies first, guided through the menu choices and food was served promptly.

We dined at the four main Grand Hyatt Bali restaurants during our three-night stay…

Salsa Verde Restaurant

This pool-side Italian Restaurant was a real winner with its delicious pizza and pasta choices. This Grand Hyatt Bali restaurant has a great airy Mediterranean theme with al fresco dining available too.

The location and outdoor dining option made this particular restaurant a winner for lunch, because you could choose to eat outside so that you barely needed to leave the pool!

My girls’ particular favourite at the Salsa Verde was the Spaghetti Bolognese.

Nampu Japanese Restaurant

On our first night at the Grand Hyatt Bali we experienced our first ever teppanyaki meal at Nampu, the Grand Hyatt Bali’s Japanese restaurant.

Our teppanyaki dishes were not only absolutely delicious, but also highly entertaining! We couldn’t believe the incredible skills of the resident chefs – it was lots of fun! The Lobster was my stand-out favourite – it was just unforgettable!

Watercourt Restaurant

We were lucky enough to have breakfast, lunch and dinner at the beautiful Grand Hyatt Bali Watercourt open air restaurant.

On our second night we had been out all day visiting the Bali tourist sites, so we were very happy to have dinner at this gorgeous Indonesian and grill restaurant.

The beautiful pool and fountains setting is such a special dining experience, and the food is just incredible too. Particular dish standouts were the steaks and the Tuna Tartare – absolutely delectable!

Passar Senggol Theatre Restaurant

On our last night we loved dining at Passar Senggol, a Balinese Night Market experience with a spectacular open-air stage Balinese cultural theatre performance show.

We loved trying all the different new Indonesian foods at the “stalls” – there’s even a dessert area! This is a fantastic way to try lots of new Balinese food – and it’s all so delicious!

I’m sure that many parents were appreciative that the Passar Senggol restaurant also offered Western options – including chicken nuggets and other kid-friendly foods for those fussy eaters!

Whilst I loved all the new Balinese dishes here, I discovered that my new food-favourite is sweet Balinese pancakes!

Following one of the amazing shows diners were invited to come up onto the stage with the cast members for a fantastic photo opportunity – I think every table jumped at the opportunity! At the end of the night all the children were invited up onto the stage to learn some new cultural dancing!

The Garden Cafe Restaurant

We loved exploring all of the Grand Hyatt Bali restaurants for not only dinner but lunch and breakfast too. We finally ate at the beautiful Garden Cafe on the last morning of our Bali getaway.

The Garden Cafe had a special Balinese breakfast selection area and also offered a wide range of Western breakfast choices.

A satisfying breakfast looking out at the wonderful view was such a peaceful – and tasty – way to start the day!

Breakfast at the Grand Hyatt Bali

At all of the Grand Hyatt Bali restaurants for breakfast there were dedicated Balinese and/or Asian breakfast food areas as well as plenty of Western breakfast choices for both adults and kids.

In addition to sausages, beans and scrambled eggs, you could always find toast and spreads, including strawberry jam and Vegemite. Yoghur, fresh fruit, toast and pastries plus cereal were all readily available. Various milks were available too.

At each restaurant there were freshly made options such as chef-ordered pancakes and egg chefs. Every morning, at each restaurant I just couldn’t resist the yummy Eggs Benedict!

The Grand Hyatt Bali is an absolute beachfront resort, located along the beautiful Mengiat Beach at Nusa Dua, the longest beach in the region.

Regarded as a gentle wave beach, Mengiat Beach is perfect for swimming with the kids or just working on your tan! We had to try out the Hotel swing whilst we were there!

The Grand Hyatt Bali Water Sports hut offers lots of different activities for extra fun at the beach too! There is everything from Parasailing and kayaking to jet skiing and surfing lessons!

Swimming pools and a real water slide

Something my teens were very excited about at the Grand Hyatt Bali were the amazing swimming pools and water slides!

There are several swimming pools – the Main Pool, the River pool and the Balinese Feature Pool.

There are so many pools and water features at the Grand Hyatt Bali that we completely missed another two pools altogether and didn’t even know it! I think that’s a first for us!

We had such fun flying down the main water slide on inflatable tubes and there’s even toddler pools and a gentle water slide for little kids too.

The Grand Hyatt Bali pools are open daily from 8am to 7pm, and the water slide to 6pm.

The Un-Crowded Bali Resort

Even though we visited the Grand Hyatt Bali during a peak period, it didn’t ever feel crowded. I loved that we could find available pool lounges when we wanted them, or pop to the bar to get a drink without having to wait in a queue. Service was always prompt and friendly. It really surprised me to learn that they during our time there they were close to full capacity – as it really didn’t feel that way!

Spoil yourself at the Grand Hyatt Bali!

Ever dedicated to looking after their guests’ relaxation and wellness, the Grand Hyatt Bali is home to The Bay Club fitness center gym for their guests, but we couldn’t resist luxuriating in the stunning Kriya Spa.

Our Kriya Spa Balinese Massage

The Kriya Spa is designed to replicate a Balinese Water Palace – it’s truly stunning to visit. They offer a range of luxurious experiences, including facials, Ayurveda Rituals, body scrubs, wraps and combined packages.

We were excited to visit the spa for a full body Balinese Massage experience. Our massage was an hour-long and fabulously relaxing. Just being at the spa is like being in a peaceful Oasis.

We all adored the indulgence of our afternoon massage therapy session at the Kriya Spa!

Kids clubs for all ages

Normally it would be difficult to align the term 5-star with family-friendly but the Grand Hyatt Bali has nailed the combination!

The Grand Hyatt Bali has some great options to keep the youngest members of the family right up to the hard-to-please teens totally entertained!

There are three separate age-targeted Kids Clubs.

The toddler, kids and teens Kids Clubs are open all day and have both free and paid options available.

Nearby shopping

The Grand Hyatt Bali has the best of both shopping worlds with their in-resort shopping mall with several shops including boutiques and a surf brands shop. We bought some great souvenirs from the hotel gift store too!

There’s a corner store open every day for life’s little essentials, including snacks! Plus there’s even some fun market stalls selling local souvenirs and crafts each evening.

The Bali Collection shopping mall

Just across the road from the Grand Hyatt is the Bali Collection, a fantastic one level shopping mall with a Starbucks, huge souvenir stores, brand outlets and much more. It’s easy to spend a couple of hours drifting from store to store!

We experienced Christmas Eve at Tokyo Disneyland and Christmas Day at Tokyo DisneySea and stayed at official Tokyo Disney Hotels. Here’s our review of what we thought were the most memorable highlights and really fun things to do at Tokyo Disney Resort at Christmas.

01. Tokyo Disney Parks general festivities

Does Japan Disney celebrate Christmas?

Yes, Tokyo Disney does celebrate Christmas, so if you’re worried about Japan not celebrating Christmas in their Disney Parks, you couldn’t be more wrong! Christmas is an important time of year at both Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea.

Even though Christmas is one of Disney’s special seasons, the crowds aren’t much more than a normal Tokyo Disney Resort day!

Tokyo Disney Resort parks are decked out in their finest Christmas decorations throughout the park. There’s a huge Christmas Tree holding court in the World Bazaar as you enter Tokyo Disneyland and another in the American Waterfront area of DisneySea which are wonderful for Christmas photos!

Christmas Garlands abound, the flowerbed Mickey at the front entrance of Disneyland is adorned with a Christmas Hat – there’s no mistaking it’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Is there Christmas food at Disneyland?

Yes, there are seasonal snacks and treats for Christmas at both Tokyo Disney Parks.

We had a Christmas Eve Breakfast at Tokyo Disneyland where they offered special Christmas Breakfast Sets. You can watch our YouTube video of our Christmas Eve breakfast at Disneyland here. There are many more yummy special Christmas menu items on offer around the Parks.

If you intend on booking a special Tokyo Disney Resort restaurant for Christmas Day, be sure to book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

As the sun goes down the Tokyo Disney theme parks Christmas decorations light up beautifully to create a magical Christmas world.

Of course you can’t miss the Tokyo Disneyland Sky Full Of Colours Fireworks Show at Christmas, it’s lovely to sit together in front of the beautifully lit Disney Castle as the lights synchronise with Disney music and colourful fireworks!

02 – Christmas in a Tokyo Disney Hotel

Staying on-site in a Disney Hotel is a great part of the festive fun. We stayed Christmas Eve in the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel in a Beauty And The Beast themed room and Christmas Night at the DisneySea MiraCosta Hotel in a Capitano Mickey Superior Room and it was just perfect!

Waking up Christmas Morning was so fun. We were so ready to leap out of bed, exchange a few travel-sized Christmas presents and hit the parks! The Tokyo Disneyland Hotel lobby decorations, Christmas music and the Tokyo Disney theme parks waiting for us out of the window all amplified the anticipation and excitement of Christmas ten-fold!

Does it cost more to stay at a Tokyo Disney Resort official hotel during the Christmas and New Year’s holiday season?

03. Tokyo Disney Christmas Parades

Christmas parades are the order of the day at both Tokyo Disney Resort parks. Tokyo Disneyland had a wonderful afternoon Christmas Stories Parade.

DisneySea had a special Santa Disney Christmas Greeting with Santa and various Disney Characters aboard a boat parading around the central Mediterranean Harbor.

At nighttime, Christmas is also incorporated into the shows and a special Tokyo Disneyland Electric Parade with Christmas music.

It all makes for such a wonderful Christmassy atmosphere that is unforgettable!

04. The Night Before Christmas Haunted Mansion overlay

I’m usually not a huge fan of ride overlays, but I have to admit the Holiday Nightmare overlay inspired by the Nightmare Before Christmas Movie of the Haunted Mansion got me wanting more!

The Tokyo DisneySea Haunted Mansion is the classic charming version of the ride. The Haunted Mansion theme on its own is really enjoyable, but it is even more fun when incorporating this fabulous overlay which extends from the grounds outside to all through the ride.

In addition to the Haunted Mansion you may also find an overlay in place on the Country Bear Theatre at Christmas time – Jingle Bell Jamboree. One thing’s for sure – any Disney ride overlay at Christmas can only add to the jolly Christmas atmosphere!

05. Christmas Merchandise

During the Christmas season you can also buy special Tokyo Disney Christmas merchandise.

These include warm Christmas sweaters, special Christmas Mickey Ears, Christmas outfit character plushies including Mickey and Minnie, postcards, pins and more!

The big problem with securing any seasonal Tokyo Disney seasonal merchandise is that it often sells out on the first few days of release! Any Tokyo Disney Resort seasonal merchandise is extremely popular with Japanese locals, so on the first few days of release store visits must be reserved through the Tokyo Disney App to limit numbers.

With any luck you may be able to get something at actual Christmas time like a special pair of Christmas Disney Ears, but chances are that the majority of Christmas items are sold out before December – and it’s very rare that they ever have second runs of any seasonal or special merchandise.

Tokyo DisneySea Christmas Ornaments

One of our lucky group member discovered this beautiful Christmas ornament in June! “This is my absolute favorite purchase. I found a tangled crystal Christmas ornament at the store in the Aladdin shop down the stairs across from the carousel. There aren’t many ornaments to be found in Disneyland nor DisneySea but this one is beautiful! Quality like a Swarovski snow flake ornament. Price 4,900 Yen.” – Nancy Wong

Tokyo Disney Christmas FAQs

When does the Tokyo Disney Christmas Season start?

The Tokyo Disney Resort official Christmas Season commences mid-November and finishes promptly at closing time the end of Christmas Day, December 25th. Overnight the Christmas theming is swapped out for the Tokyo Disney Resort New Year’s theme. So don’t arrive on Boxing Day hoping to still enjoy the Christmas festivities! Plan for your trip to fall between November 16 until December 25th to enjoy all the Tokyo Disney Christmas fun. (Don’t forget to join our Tokyo Disneyland Holiday Planning Facebook Group too!)

Are Tokyo Disney shows, rides and parades in English?

Yes and no. But it really shouldn’t affect your enjoyment at all! Disney is Disney around the world, but the vast majority of Tokyo Disney Park go-ers at Tokyo Disney are of course local Japanese with a minority of tourists mainly consisting of Korean and Chinese visitors. Even so, most Disney music in the parks, including Christmas shows and parades are played in their original English version. There is of course plenty of Japanese narration and dialogue, especially on the rides but they are just as fun as ever and bring home that you are on an exciting overseas trip!

So as you can see, a Christmas visit to Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea parks is well worth it! Start planning now for your amazing Tokyo Disney Christmas – it’s never too early and makes for an incredibly memorable Christmastime.

Finding a hotel for the family to stay in during your Disneyland vacation is sometimes like finding a needle in a haystack. We usually start off searching according to our priorities – location, food, pool… but sometimes it can be really hard to find the hotel that ticks all your boxes. Not to mention in the price range you want!

Most of all we want to know if that Disney hotel really is as good as they say it is – but who do you believe when it comes to reviews? Are they real reviews by real people?

Luckily, my Disneyland California Holiday Planning Facebook Group is packed full of real Disneyland Park frequent visitors who aren’t afraid to tell it like it is about the hotels surrounding Disneyland!

Here you’ll find our Disneyland Facebook group member’s hotel experiences, reviews and comments all gathered together for each hotel – so you can make a more informed choice about where you’ll be spending your precious Disney accommodation money!

Which are the closest hotels to Disneyland?

The following hotels are closer to the park turnstiles than the Disneyland Hotel, and are a few minutes walk across the road:

About the 3 Disneyland Official Park Hotels

Disneyland Hotel
Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa
Pixar Place Hotel

The 3 official hotels are great if you plan to spend a lot of time at the resorts, in the pools, dining there, etc. Otherwise, the 30 minutes of early entry alone really isn’t worth the extra cost.

Official Disney hotel or hotel across the street?

The properties across the street are a very short walk but are not comparable to the Disney properties really in any way, especially to DLH and GCH. Across the street they are lower end motel-style properties with few amenities.

The Disney properties are full on resorts, with significantly bigger and better pools, multiple restaurants and bars, shops, their own security entrances and early entry, valet and concierge services, etc. People who spend down time at the resorts generally feel that the extra cost is worth it to not leave the Disney “bubble.”

People who simply need a place to sleep at night are very happy to save the money and stay across the street

Which is the best hotel to watch the Disneyland fireworks?

We stayed at the Suncoast and stayed in a regular double queen suite, room 340 and had an amazing view each night. We did not stay in the more expensive room that you pay extra for to see the fireworks.

Light sleeper? Hotels with highway noise issues

Element – You can definitely hear the freeway if you’re on that (the freeway) side.

if road noise is an issue for you you’ll also want to avoid some of the newer hotels along Katella Ave (Hyatt House, Springhill Suites, Residence Inn, etc), unless you get a room facing south. But then you can’t see the parks.

Larger family accommodation

For larger suite-type rooms that might fit all of you but are a little closer, you might also check out (Springhill Suites) and Hyatt House

There is the Alamo that is older less expensive and doesn’t charge for a vehicle. It is right at the end of the parking lot for Downtown Disney.

We stayed at Alamo inns and suites, 10/15 minute walk. Lovely room and staff. We could see the parks from our room.

We stayed at Alpine Inn recently for about $150/night and it was basic but nice and clean and about a 10 minute walk to the entrance. We would stay again especially if we planned to be in the park most of the time!

hello! we did end up staying there and even doe the hotel wasnt the prettiest, it was what we needed, we went to the walmart nearby( yes we walked ) and managed to save money buying snacks and food for not only disney but in the hotel and we did walk to disney everytime! it wasnt too far at all. i think if u can get it for a cheap price its totally worth it:) considering its just a place to hold ur items and sleep at night

Anaheim Desert Inn is across the road from the main entrance. Also has a viewing deck for fireworks. Don’t think it’s fancy – has a continental breakfast included but also a great price. Location is everything.

We always stay across from the Disneyland Bus Station at The Anaheim Hotel. Just a 5 minute walk into the bus depot and the entrance to Disneyland . We travel from New Zealand and always stay there. It’s close for me to go back to the hotel for a nap during the day lol

Another vote for the Anaheim hotel across the road from the parks. Very easy 5 minute walk – super convenient, we just came back from there and would head to the park in the day, come back to the hotel about 4ish for the kids to have a breather and then walk back to the park in the early evening to continue on. Super close and very convenient

Anaheim hotel just served us well. Basic room but even space, only 5 mins walk to entrance, good pool!

Disappointing Stay – (abbreviated) A Decline in Standards and Service – strong, unpleasant cigarette odor. The bathroom was not properly cleaned – hair was on the floor and there was visible mold/mildew present. The phone in the room did not work, making it impossible to contact the front desk or housekeeping. Furniture was in a state of disrepair. Mold or mildew was visible in the corner of the room on the ceiling. Cobwebs were hanging from the ceiling. Wallpaper was peeling/delaminating from the wall. The cold air return vents were filthy and clearly had not been cleaned in a long time. Given the lack of care, responsiveness, and cleanliness, we no longer feel confident staying at this property and cannot recommend it to others.

BW Stovall is a super easy walk. We stay at the Westin right across the street all the time.

You just go right up Disneyland Dr and enter security in front of the Disneyland Hotel. It’s a very safe, very nicely landscaped walk. There will be plenty of people doing the walk at all times of day. Including cast members who park nearby.

On your way home from the parks you can cut through the Grand Californian to cut off some steps. You can’t go in that way in the morning if you’re not a guest, but it’s easy at night.

We stayed at Best Western Stovall. We were so happy with it. The location and walk felt safe. The breakfast was incredible. Saved us a bunch of money. Very clean. Comfy beds.

Cambria Hotel & Suites reviews

Just came back from staying at the Cambria. The walk was flat & super easy only 2 blocks really. On a map it looks more difficult. There are lots of young families all doing the same thing.

Cambria hotel, they have suites and adjoining rooms, 2 showers in each room too. Breakfast included. ART shuttle bus stop outside hotel, easy transport to and from parks

My son’s and I just stayed at The Cambria hotel and suites and we loved it. Fantastic facilities, good free breakfast and heaps of restaurants out the front, swimming pool, waterslides, childs water pad, mini golf, basketball hoop and big spa, laundry facilities and a gym. Small vehicle Uber to the parks is between $5-$10 each way and easy 5min walk to toy story parking lot where you can get the free bus to Disneyland

We stayed at the Cambria a couple of years ago, at the time our kids were 13 and 6, we all love the place, clean and tidy fantastic pool and water slides, a bit of a walk to Disneyland but managed it, would stay there again definitely, hope you have a great holiday.

The Cambria is a perfectly fine property with a great pool. The only downside is that it’s 7-8 min further walk to the parks – but you can walk into the Toy Story parking lot and take the shuttle. 

We are at the cambria now for 10 days. The rooms are clean and love the full size fridge and microwave. The pool is warm and the waterslides are a bonus for the kids. It’s nice to have Starbucks and other restaurants in the parking lot. The breakfast is decent but busy. We could watch the fireworks right from our room. The only down fall is no dressers or anywhere to put clothes for a long stay.

Enjoyed the Candy Cane Inn a few years ago. Literally occupies the southeast corner in the block mostly filled by DCA, and a pretty easy walk to the gate (without needing to cross Harbour Blvd). There are closer places along the road, but I haven’t tried them

Candy Cane is smaller, mom and pop operated, and newly renovated.

We just stayed at the candy cane inn which is on the same side of the street as Disneyland and it was great, comfy beds, breakfast was very good and many options. It’s motel style so you don’t have to wait on elevators etc. They also offer a shuttle every hour

We just checked out of Candy Cane Inn today and I would highly recommend it. 5 minute walk to Disneyland and the hotel is beautiful, clean and staff super friendly. Breakfast and parking included. You can see the back side of Radiator Springs from the hotel, that’s how close you are.

We stayed at Candy Cane Inn last August. It was affordable, clean, walking distance to parks and had free daily breakfast.

It’s a pretty basic hotel, although I think at least partially renovated in the last couple years. Super easy walk, and also a couple random places to eat right next door. The best part are the owners – it’s family owned and they’re super nice people. Usually really good customer service there.

Check out castle inn and suites it’s an easy walk free parking for a car if you have one, most hotels close by will charge a parking fee up toward 20 bucks a day.

Have a look at Castle inn and suites. We really enjoyed staying there.

if cost doesn’t matter I would 100% stay at the Grand Californian. If that’s a little too pricey I’d drop down to the Disneyland Hotel. Those would be the best overall experience.

The Grand Californian is the closest in the resort area, and reflects in its price with convenience and beauty.

Element Hotel, walking distance (11 mins/0.9km) and amazing breakfast. The rooms have a dishwasher and cooker top. Some rooms also have theme park views so you can watch the fireworks at night.

it took us about 8 minutes walk

I like the Element just fine – big comfy rooms and a good breakfast. But I’d probably take that extra money and spend it on snacks and merch in the parks instead.

Stayed at Element in December. It is a great hotel and the rooms are very spacious

We stayed at Element from April 13-15 and loved the spacious rooms. We were upgraded to a room with a king bed, 2 bunk beds, a couch, and a kitchenette with a microwave and utensils. It was only a 10-minute walk to California Adventure and Disneyland.

We stayed at the Element and loved it, the hotel is spotless, the breakfast is amazing, free cheese and wine mon to thurs, some rooms with fireworks views and the pool was like a bath, we were there in winter, also it was an easy walk to the park. We would 100% stay at the Element again, also family of 5, 3 big kids, 21,18 and 15.

you could hear the road noise at the pool but it wasn’t too bad. We couldn’t hear any road noise from our room (not freeway side). I’m a really light sleeper, I can’t have a room at a lift shaft or doors etc and I slept great at the Element. You will love it. we were on the other side from the motorway the rooms with the parks views.

Try the Element. It’s super clean, and nice (brand new) for being a quick place to stay. Easy walk to/from the parks.

Element Anaheim Resort Convention Center Hotel Negatives

You can definitely hear the freeway if you’re on that side. I’m a fairly light sleeper and hated it. But, the park view rooms all face due west into the park and are much quieter, so when we stay there – and we do, bc it’s quite nice – we only do park view.

The Element is a nice Hotel but is a bit of A walk to the parks. It also doesn’t have a spa pool but the included breakfast is good.

Embassy Suites by Hilton Anaheim South

Embassy Suites Garden Grove South, they had 3 laundry rooms.

We stayed at Embassy Suites Garden Grove South and there was lots of reasonably priced eateries close by. Bucca di Beppo had huge portions and Joe’s crab shack is always a good option. Target nearby too.

We are at Fairfield right now. We stayed at Disneyland hotel earlier this month. This was is actually faster than Disneyland hotel.

Almost opposite the entrance and just as close as the Disney hotels.

We stayed at the Fairfield. McDonald’s and Panera in the parking lot.

The best view of fireworks is probably from the Fairfield Anaheim Resort. It’s a high rise building, has exterior walkways where people can stand and watch on every floor even if your actual room doesn’t face the parks, and it’s one of the absolute closest hotels to where the fireworks actually launch.

All that said, I wouldn’t pick a hotel for that reason – if you’re concerned about not making it to the end of the night I’d just pick something close where you can take a midday break and then go back in the evening to watch the nighttime shows from inside the park.

We did three days (2 at Disneyland and 1 in DCA) and stayed at grand legacy at the park. I highly recommend the hotel. You just cross the street and you are at the parks. We loved going back in the hot afternoon for a swim and then head back to the parks when it got cooler.

Almost opposite the entrance and just as close as the Disney hotels.

Grand Legacy is a 5 min walk from the park, was affordable and the facilities were great. The room are small but you are only there to sleep! We are a family of 5 too. It was great to be close to the park

We stayed at Hampton inn and suites . Close to Disney with free shuttle to and from . Kitchenette and could sleep 6 with plenty of space . Free parking too . Had breakfast included . It’s a modern and new place unlike a lot around Disney that are old , dated and expensive

I stayed with 2 teenage daughters in Jan at Hampton inn in Anaheim. The girls stayed in a twin queen room and had breakfast thrown in. Plus had a bus stop in the carpark which left every 15min for Disney.

Holiday Inn express was clean we shared beds think there was even a pull out sofa too.. and free breakfast. Short walk to park – it’s very close to the Howard Johnson.

Holiday Inn Express Fullerton reviews

We stayed last week it wasnt a far walk at all even though its about 15-20 mins. The city runs a shuttle which was super handy only around $4 for adults and $3 for kids which can be used multiple times a day. The shuttle picks you up at the entrance of the holiday inn, also stops at a few other hotels but drops you straight to the park gates. The reception will give you the shuttle details and you just download the app which you can buy the tickets and also track where the shuttle is

The ART bus system was great for my group of 7 to use.

Not sure if it’s your walking distance, but for us, Homewood Suites by Hilton Maingate, breakfast included, kitchenette, separate living and bedroom rooms with TVs, pool and hot tub, Aud $209, USD cheaper. (April 2025)

Also the Main Gate 6 Anaheim is good and really affordable, also close walk to DL.

The Howard Johnson is around an 8 minute walk to the security entrance of Disneyland. It’s a great option and is across the road from the parks, close to lots of places to eat too. Can highly recommend (stayed there in November and walked back in the dark as a group of females and felt safe).

The Hojo is just a 10 min walk to security. There are closer properties but lower end motel types. The Hojo was recently renovated and has a great water park. If you’re doing any rest days between park days it’s great for kids.

We stayed there last November and it’s around an 8 minute walk. If you cross over the road (not Harbour Blvd) and walk through the Marriott car park it’s quick.

We stayed at the Howard Johnston probably 10-15 min walk, not far at all.

Howard Johnson is a very manageable walk to Disney we were there last year and no complaints from my sons walking youngest was 7 

Hojo is a bigger property. also has some – but not all – newly renovated rooms, and a fun water park

If you’re going in warm weather and would have a day or afternoon at the hotel taking breaks, I’d go with Hojo.

My 3 and 4 year old walked just fine to Disney from the hojo. And they loved stopping at McDonald’s on the way back.

We were just at the Howard Johnson. It was great the walk wasn’t too far and we had our 3 year old with us. The room we had was great and spacious there were 5 of us and the water park was good too.

We stayed at the Howard Johnson in November, it wasn’t really a long walk at all. Would absolutely stay there again, super clean and friendly staff.

It’s not a long walk at all! Stayed there before and booked there again for July.

This hotel isn’t far at all from Disney have stayed twice 

HoJo is 8 mins to the security entrance at Disneyland. It’s a really straight walk down one road and easy to do.

Last month we stayed at the Howard Johnson which was 8mins walk to Disneyland and we walked to Walmart which was about 20mins walk. We just did a big shop so we only had to do it once.

It’s not a far walk 

 we stayed there 2 years ago and took us max 15 minutes! Even with a 5 year old at the time it was easy

Howard Johnston but I don’t think they do breakfast but there is a few restaurants you pass on the way. Has a splash park. Walk isn’t far and you can see fireworks show from your hotel if your baby is sleeping and can’t last that late. Not sure they have a shuttle though. Also not sure on price.

I can recommend the Howard Johnson. Easy 8 minute walk to parks, spacious bedrooms and bathrooms. Comfy bed, safe, fridge, coffee maker, microwave. Just make sure you go for a newly refurbished room.

First time in 2013 was fantastic went again last year and was not impressed- there was no AC and we had a bed bug scare. . Hotel was really good about it all, if you do stay here make sure the travel agent books the “deluxe” more expensive room buildings near the pool (these ones have elevators the basic ones don’t)

HoJo is farther than I like to walk after a long day

All the people saying it’s not far, less than 10 minute walk…I’m with the OP, at the end of a 12 hour day being in your feet all day at Disneyland, another 10 mins is torture.

Howard Johnson is a good hotel but after a big day at Disneyland you don’t feel like rhe walk up the slight hill.

We have just returned from the Hyatt Regency Orange County and we loved it. Upon check in we were asked if we would like an update to a two bedroom, two bathroom suite with a lounge and it was perfect. Lovely hotel and will be booking again in 2027. We highly recommend this hotel and it even has a shuttle to the parks which runs every half an hour for six dollars.

We stayed at the Pixar Place and had a really lovely time. Such a cute hotel and clean. Easy short stroll into downtown Disney and can catch the monorail into Disneyland.

Best onsite is Pixar Place! Large rooms, themed, splash pad, waterslide, pool, outdoor viewing with fire pits for fireworks.

I agree Pixar if on site. We stayed at the grand as well. But Pixar was amazing for our large family.

But Pixar is a new renovation so the rooms are nice and fresh, albeit smaller. PP it’s fastest to just walk across Disneyland Drive (long light, tons of people crossing) to either go through the Grand to DTD or DL, or through the private entry into DCA

If you want to stay on site I’ve heard Pixar hotel is the best on site cost wise.

We love it!! We stayed this past September with my family of 7. We enjoyed being close to the parks the pool!! But it just depends on your budget. We are staying there in November with my parents. With my parents my dad needs a scooter and it makes so much easier for us to access everything for him.

we had a 4 day hopper park ticket and stayed at Sheraton Park Hotel, perfect location for the park about 10 minutes from parks with a lovely pool area and rooms are fantastic with a view of the parks- you can watch the fireworks from your balcony! the area is lovely with lots of restaurants close by and mostly everything as walking distance.
Definitely have a look at the hotel it really was a great location and the rooms were super modern and clean.

Sheraton is a bit further down the road (from the entrance to Disneyland), probably a 15 min walk but if you cross the road you can use the shuttles in the Toy Story parking lot for free!

I have stayed there every trip (5) and found it a pleasant walk also

We stayed at the Sheraton park hotel and couldn’t fault it. Was great and was easy walk on same street as Disneyland. Right near the walgreens supermarket to get drinks and snacks which was handy.

We’ve been at Springhill all week. It’s a nice Springhill. Close walk to the parks (like 15 mins). Breakfast is not a great selection. The pool is small. The price per night plus $30/night parking isn’t great. But can’t complain for what we’ve paid. We’ve used uber a lot to get home from the parks and it’s like $5

Suncoast was great! Could see the ferris wheel from our room!

We’ve booked the sun coast Hilton – according to reports it’s about a 15min walk away and you can see the fireworks from there. For us as a party of four it was also reasonably priced.

We stayed at the Suncoast and stayed in a regular double queen suite, room 340 and had an amazing view each night. We did not stay in the more expensive room that you pay extra for to see the fireworks.

We just last week stayed at SunCoast Tapestry and had no issues there. Easy enough walk there and back through the day to Disneyland and DCA. We have a 14 and 9 year old. We went back each afternoon for a quick break and grab jumpers and then back into parks… we were there 4 night

We stayed at the Suncoast Park. Pool was amazing, walk was 10-12 minutes to the park for us. There isn’t a free breakfast so we bought groceries and would make our own.

Have just got back from staying at Wyndham Anaheim & had a fabulous stay. Didn’t have a car but was offered a car park if we decided to hire one. We did a shop & made our own quick breakfasts on park days &/or grabbed something from the Starbucks down in the foyer. They had potties of cereal & yoghurt which a couple of times I ate on route to the park. The staff were fabulous & went out of their way to know our names & couldn’t do enough for us. The hotel has a bus stop literally right outside that takes u to the park or the free Toy Story bus was right across the road from the hotel that u could walk to. Great location with the garden city walk being next door. We would most definitely stay there again.

Accommodation: Wyndham Anaheim – 2 double beds + cot for our daughter. Great location, 10-minute walk to the parks (very stroller friendly route). Optional breakfast (we ate at the parks). Close to Walgreens, CVS, pizza places, IHOP, Denny’s, and Cheesecake Factory – super convenient with a toddler. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Is the Henn Na Hotel really run by dinosaurs?

It sure is! We arrived at 11pm at night to be met by large dinosaur animatronics in hotel lobby including two Velociraptor dinosaur robots at the reception desk!

The Henn Na Hotel brand has the distinction of being the first ever dinosaur robot run hotels in the world!

With the help of in ipad for information input, a passport scanning pad, electronic funds transfer machine and automatic room key issue we were checked in – and checked out in the morning – all by dinosaur robots!

Apart from poking our heads into the breakfast restaurant next door before we left early the next morning, we didn’t see one staff member throughout our stay.

The Henn Na Maihama Tokyo Bay is like a regular three-star hotel in Tokyo. The basic rooms are small in size but not tiny like some Japanese three-star hotels can be.

Rooms are clean and modern with basic furnishings, a small remote-control TV, tea amenities, hair dryer, safe and Japan hotels’ characteristically firm beds. There is reverse cycle air conditioning, a small fridge and Japanese plug outlets.

The hotel rooms have private bathroom amenities of a separate toilet and small bath shower room. There are towels and toiletries including soap, toothbrushes, shampoo and conditioner.

Do you really get a robot in your hotel room?

Yes, you do! The unusual bonus in your hotel room is your own personal room concierge robot! Yes, there is a Jurassic – prehistoric themed breakfast restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel which was serving a buffet breakfast when we left. The restaurant is only open for breakfast and does not require reservations.

The Henn Na Maihama room price per night is around AUD$250 or USD$160 per night for a week night stay which can almost double on weekends and holidays. That’s still a cheap stay near Tokyo Disney Resort.

We paid top dollar at around AUD$450 for the last room the night before Christmas Eve, which I snapped up when I saw it available the week prior!

Is there a free shuttle bus to Tokyo Disney Resort?

Yes, the Henn Na Maihama offers a free shuttle bus to Maihama Station which is located next to Tokyo Disneyland. To get to Tokyo DisneySea you need to catch the Disney Resort Line monorail from nearby, next to Maihama railway station or at the Tokyo Disneyland entrance. The bus stop is at the South Exit of Maihama Station there is no sign – see the map below for the location. The free shuttle bus timetable is available on the official website here.

How much does a taxi to the hotel cost?

A taxi from Maihama Station to the Henn Na Maihama Tokyo Bay Hotel cost us 1200JPY (about AUD$13/USD$8.50) and cost us 1100JPY to Tokyo Disneyland Hotel in the morning.

When we found ourselves with a spare day on our hands in Tokyo, we decided last-minute to do a day trip to see the Snow Monkeys in Nagano. We successfully made it there and back and had a great time, absolutely freezing at -2 but incredible! But I’m also the first to admit that we made lots of mistakes along the way doing this day trip unplanned and on our own – and in fact, may have done this trip all wrong!

How we did it ourselves – the Snow Monkeys of Nagano from Tokyo in one day

Where is the Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park located?

Jigokudani Monkey Park is located in Yamanouchi, Nagano Prefecture. Jigokudani basically means hell valley due to the hot steaming springs and steep valley sides. To me it looked absolutely beautiful.

Leaving Tokyo for Nagano via Shinkansen

We left our hotel at Ikebukuro, deciding to take the train across to Omiya Station to meet up with the Shinkansen to Nagano, but the standard way from Tokyo is to take the Shinkansen from Tokyo Station. Upon arrival at Omiya, we queued for twenty minutes to buy our Shinkansen tickets from Omiya Station ticket window and boarded the next Shinkansen to Nagano. They leave frequently.

How long does it take to get the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Nagano?

The entire trip from Tokyo Station to Nagano on the Shinkansen takes an hour and a half. It’s a comfortable, smooth but fast ride and a very fun experience. Each seat has a drop-down table, cup holders and device charging plugs.

When we arrived in Nagano we worked out where the rapid bus to the Monkey Park was at the station exit and bought our tickets at the bus stop (not the bus office upstairs). Buses leave frequently and the trip takes a bit over an hour.

Upon arrival, you alight from the rapid bus at the lower carpark and walk up a long hill and a few streets to get to the start of the trail to get to the entrance of the Monkey Park. There are plenty of signs to show you where to go and it takes about ten minutes to get to the trail start.

At the start of the forest trail, you need to ascend a snowy-edged staircase, then walk along a 1.6km level, groomed dirt trail to the valley where Snow Monkey Park is located.

It’s a beautiful forest trail with some points of interest along the way. It is very good underfoot all the way.

The valley itself is icy cold and stunningly beautiful. Gushing steam from a hot spring, steep walls and snow absolutely everywhere in February.

A human snow onsen too!

A river runs through the valley, and across a bridge you can see a human onsen. There isn’t meant to be monkeys in it, but we could see one in there! We continued on to the main event – the monkey onsen!

Hot tip – take some swimmers and you can go in the adult onsen (hot rock pool) and bathe WITH some monkeys for around AUD$10.00 per person!

There is a steep stairway which takes you to the Park ticket office. There you can buy your day ticket and enter the Monkey Park.

Upon entry you can immediately see monkeys everywhere. They sit grooming each other or running about. You are not allowed to get within one metre of them, but it’s easy to get very close. The monkeys are not vicious or scary at all and don’t seem to mind us humans around them at all!

What is the Nagano Snow Monkey onsen like?

Upon crossing a small bridge we could see a people crowding around something. In no time we were there. The Snow Monkey Onsen was a sight to see!

Although groups of people were watching from the sides, it wasn’t hard to get a good spot to see. The monkeys were in the warm waters of a snow-surrounded steaming pool, bathing, grooming, resting. Adults and babies. They were all adorable! Sometimes they stare at you and apparently you aren’t meant to stare at them back, but somehow, I missed that memo. It didn’t bother them, luckily!

Now and then a monkey fight would break out, but it was more chattering and running than anything else. The people watching from the sides of the pool were all delighted at the sight of the antics of the Monkey Onsen. It was freezing standing there watching, but oh so worth it to experience this wonderful sight of the Snow Monkey Onsen.

Time was passing, and as the park closes at 4pm in winter we reluctantly made our way back to the park office exit, having a look around the gift shop as we went. Then we descended the steep stairway down to the forest trail to walk all the way back.

The stairs at the end of the trail and the road below it had become quite icy, so everyone was slipping and sliding a little!

We called in for a snack at a little Enza Cafe on the way down – their warm apple pastries and hot chocolates tasted so good! Unfortunately, a little too good as we missed the last bus before dark back down the bottom of the road at the carpark and so had to wait a very long and cold hour and a half for the last bus to Nagano. The only place to wait was a tiny lit but unheated waiting room. Finally, the bus arrived and got us back to Nagano Station where we caught the Shinkansen back to Tokyo.

How much did it cost us to take the Shinkansen and bus to Nagano?

The three of us cost around (AUD) $210 or 21,000yn one way on the Shinkansen, so that’s AUD $420 /42000 yen return plus almost $60 or 6000 yen each way for the connecting rapid bus from Nagano to the Snow Monkey Park (easy to catch there, not so easy back late in the day at closing time of 4pm), so another $120 or 12000 yen. Total will be around AUD $540/54000yn. Altogether it’s not a cheap day trip, but it’s absolutely worth every cent!

How much does it cost to go to Snow Monkey Park at Nagano?

Entrance to the Snow Monkey Park was JPY800 for adults and JPY400 for children.

When should you visit the Snow Monkeys?

Snow Monkey Park is open every day, year round. Whilst it is very cold in Nagano, winter is the best time to visit because lots of monkeys will be in the hot pool to get warm. You can visit year-round as there are always monkeys about, but the startling sight of snowy monkeys bathing in a hot pool in a snowy valley is incredibly memorable. We visited in February, and it felt like the perfect time to visit.

What should you wear in winter?

Think lots of warm layers. We had our ski jackets on top of undershirts and hoodies and wore our ski gloves, turtle necks and beanies.

Waterproof grippy shoes would be useful but not essential – we did it in trainers. You can hire jackets and boots, or buy some ice grip straps to put on your shoes at the gift shop before you go up the first staircase at the start of the trail. We did it without buying the shoe grips, but I can see how they would be useful, especially towards the end of the day when it got icy. In hindsight, it’s probably best not to leave quite that late in winter!

What we did wrong when doing it ourselves.

We left Tokyo too late at 11am with no pre-planning. We took too much time working out how to meet the Shinkansen, then buying tickets and finding where we needed to go for the Shinkansen – I even managed to forget to take my ticket out of the machine, and with 5 minutes to go before our Shinkansen was due to arrive, had to race back to the office to get someone to retrieve it for me!

When we boarded, we realised we didn’t have a seat as it was a busy Shinkansen and so had to buy what was left – non reserved tickets. This meant we had to stand or sit on the floor for half the trip until enough people left for us to sit down! The Shinkansen home was quieter so we could get reserved seating tickets.

Arriving at Nagano we then had to work out how and where to catch the rapid bus and spent ten minutes lining up in the wrong office.

Because we had left Tokyo late we had no time to spare to stop for a meal and didn’t see anywhere easy to grab food other than vending machine snacks at the stations. It also meant we were leaving the monkey park at closing time and doing the trail on foot when it was getting dark, cold and icy. After visiting the park, there was nowhere open to get food other than a street bakery on the way down to the bus stop and so we then made ourselves too late to catch the earlier, most sensible return bus – because by that point we were ravenous! It was a comedy of errors all day really, but the adventure still gives us some lovely and funny memories to look back on.

All that said, we had an absolutely brilliant day visiting the Snow Monkeys and were so glad we did it – but there are absolutely easier ways to do it than how we did!

How would I do it next time?

I wouldn’t do it ourselves. I would choose an all-inclusive Klook day trip to the snow monkeys out of Tokyo (use my discount code LETSGOMUMKLOOK for up to 10% off at checkout!) – a bus there and back including lunch at about $180 each all up – that’s $540 or 54000 yen.

It costs the same as it cost us to do it ourselves via Shinkansen and bus, but you get lunch included with a bit more sightseeing and won’t have to worry about missing public transport anywhere! (Like us waiting around for a bus in the dark at the end of the day!) It’s a longer day and uses a coach instead of Shinkansen, but it is definitely an easier, smarter choice – and better value!

If you have a spare day to travel outside of Tokyo, then you really should visit the Snow Monkeys of Nagano – it was a wonderful experience we’ll never forget!

I didn’t want to be spending all our time commuting up and down the highway from Surfers to the Movie World, Dreamworld and other Gold Coast theme parks – but I did want us to be in easy reach of Surfers Paradise for the occasional fun evening out. In addition, also have the option of being able to eat in when we were tired from a long day of fun at the parks! What accommodation is near Dreamworld and Movie World?

Big4 Gold Coast Holiday Park is the perfect accommodation choice for visiting the Gold Coast theme parks. Located just a few minutes drive away from Dreamworld and Movie World, the Big4 Gold Coast Holiday Park is still just twenty minutes drive from the beaches and nightlife of Surfers Paradise.

Our 2 Bedroom Lakeview Terrace cabin

At Big4 Gold Coast Holiday Park we stayed in a Lakeview Terrace cabin.

Our 2-bedroom Lakeview Terrace cabin was very spacious and modern, and gave us all lots of room to move, eat – and relax!

Accessed with a secure digital room card, the entry opened into a large living area featuring a comfortable lounge, dining area and kitchen.

Air-conditioned accommodation

On the wall a powerful reverse cycle air conditioner kept us cool, and there was plenty of natural light from the glass sliding doors and windows.

The elevated balcony had a beautiful outlook. It’s peaceful view over the waterway featured a fountain and surrounding grasslands, complete with all kinds of lovely water birds and parrots.

Two bedrooms sleep four people

I quickly settled into the main bedroom. With its comfortable double bed, the main bedroom also featured a second reverse cycle air conditioner, another flat screen TV, and had plenty of storage with bed side tables and a built-in wardrobe.

The girls happily claimed the second bedroom, which contained two single beds with a bedside table and its own built in wardrobe.

A generous bathroom and two toilets

The bathroom was located across the hall from the bedrooms and was modern and a generous size. It contained everything a family could need on vacation, including a large vanity, toilet, king size shower plus toiletries including shampoo and conditioner. A convenient second toilet was also located off the hall.

A holiday cabin with a full kitchen

Our cabin featured a full kitchen along one side of the living area. Kitchen appliances included a full-sized fridge, dishwasher, stove top and microwave. There was everything you would need for a home-cooked meal to serve on the large dining table. There were also supplied tea and coffee amenities.

Where can you get dinner near the Gold Coast theme parks?

If I didn’t feel like cooking, it was great to be able to grab a takeaway on the way back to the holiday park so we could all collapse on the lounge in front of the TV – or even better, pop into the holiday park’s own Nibbles Cafe!

One of the huge advantages of staying at the Big4 Gold Coast Holiday Park was eating at their on-site cafe. The poolside Nibbles Cafe has a wonderful variety of delicious dinner choices to dine in or take back to your cabin, including yummy parmies, pasta and pizza.

In the mornings, Nibbles Cafe served up barista coffee and delicious breakfasts for all the family. From vegemite toast and pancakes to Eggs Benedict and a full hot breakfast – they had everyone in our family covered!

In addition to all kinds of great accommodation, the Big4 Gold Coast Holiday Park also offers an incredible range of fun activities to keep the whole family happy!

The tallest holiday park water park in Australia!

The Big4 Gold Coast Holiday Park water park is simply amazing – it’s a whole attraction in itself, with several water slides and a dunking bucket. It’s the perfect place for the kids to cool off!

A resort-style swimming pool and spa

One of the park’s main features is a stunning resort style swimming pool surrounded with cabanas. It’s beautifully lit for night swimming too.

A giant jumping pillow & kids playground

In addition to the pool, in the extensive grounds you’ll also find a giant jumping pillow, a basketball court, a large children’s playground with a flying fox, go karts for hire and there’s even a video games arcade!

A safe, good quality holiday park

The park itself is very well run and cared for. There’s a large reception building upon entry, and good park security thanks to code operated boom gates and Staff present around the park.

The speed-limited interior roads are sealed, lined with mowed lawn and beautifully kept decorative gardens.

Many different styles of holiday accommodation available

The park itself offers many different types and styles of cabins and safari tents to stay in as well as a Motel. There are camping, RV and caravan sites available. The Gold Coast Holiday Park is also pet friendly.

Camping facilities

If you are bringing your RV or caravan, there are plenty of concrete sites, some with ensuites. There’s a pay laundry with washing machines and dryers and some great camping facilities too – such as a large and elegant camp kitchen and also toilet and shower amenities decorated with beautiful aquariums!

The world-first The Wizard Of Oz theme park precinct is now open at Warner Bros Movie World on the Gold Coast!

How do you get to The Wizard Of Oz area inside Movie World?

How do you get to The Wizard Of Oz area inside Movie World? Why, you follow the yellow brick road of course!

After entering Movie World, head to the left side of the golden Bugs Bunny central fountain towards the Super Man Coaster. You’ll see the Wizard Of Oz Character statues marking the beginning of the Yellow Brick Road to Oz. This is where your journey begins – plus you can get your best Wizard Of Oz family photo or Instagram photo ever!

It’s time to “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” through the rainbow tunnel to emerge into the land of Oz, and the Emerald City – skipping and singing is optional!

Prepare to be delighted with the overall impact of the multi-million-dollar, immersive Wizard Of Oz precinct. From the charming, tiny Munchkin houses, to the grandeur of the emerald-green palace of the great and powerful Oz, it’s just like stepping into the classic film!

The attention to detail of the outside Wizard Of Oz area alone is enough to make you wonder – what lies within the palace? Excitingly you get to find out, as this is where the themed paths to both of the new Wizard Of Oz ride’s begin! All you need to do, is step through the sliding double doors…

What are the Wizard Of Oz rides like?

The new Wizard of Oz rides are the perfect mix of thrills and fun! There’s not one, but two brand new rides inside the Movie World The Wizard Of Oz area – best of all they are both family-friendly so that everyone gets to experience the fun!

When you step inside the Emerald Palace you enter a large chamber where you find yourself facing the Great and Powerful Oz himself! Or at least, just like in the movie, it’s the mysterious machination of him!

As the Wizard imperiously demands to know who you are, the walls show flash-back scenes of Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion during their journey along the Yellow Brick Road.

Just like in the movie, the experience really is like the classic film is being brought to life right before your eyes!

Then it’s time to choose a left or right path – each side offers a different ride – which will you pick first?!

How do you get to the Flight of the Wicked Witch ride?

The path to the Flight of the Wicked Witch is your very own incredible journey through the Land Of Oz.

Walk through the enchanted field of eerily lit red poppies watched over by the Wicked Witch herself, casting sleeping spells over her crystal ball along the way. Try not to fall asleep!

Once you make it through the poppies you pass by a cranky apple tree – you’ve wandered into the Haunted Forest from the movie!

Follow the winding path along and out until you find yourself at the Flight of the Wicked Witch coaster!

What is it like to ride the Flight of the Wicked Witch coaster?

The blue and red Wicked Witch Coaster slowly ascends to a 19.3 metre height before taking you on an exciting “flight” of up to 67km per hour through twists and turns as you hang suspended underneath – now that’s wickedly good fun coaster!

Can kids ride the Flight Of The Wicked Witch coaster?

Yes! All the family can ride The Flight Of The Wicked Witch coaster with kids as little as 105cm tall being able to ride along with an adult.

After The Flight of the Wicked Witch we were so ready to jump back in to the Emerald Palace to take the path to the second brand new Wizard of Oz ride at Movie World – the Kansas Twister!

How do you get to the Kansas Twister ride?

As you walk along the path to the Kansas Twister ride you become aware of a noise building – it’s a tornado! You actually get to pass through the inside of the sepia toned (black and white old movie style) Dorothy’s farmhouse, complete with period furniture, swinging lights and of course a tornado raging outside! What an amazing experience!

Continue on outside to find yourself passing through fields of corn in the Kansas farmlands on the way to a huge barn – is that a tornado-flung cow on top?! Enter the barn and climb aboard your farm tractor carriage to ride the Kansas Twister!

What is riding The Kansas Twister like?

The Kansas Twister is actually two side-by-side racing roller coasters. Reaching heights of 22 metres, the two coasters boomerang up and back along the tracks at speeds as fast as 58 kilometres per hour – it’s breathtakingly good fun!

Can kids ride the Kansas Twister coaster?

Yes! Very family friendly, the Kansas Twister coaster allows kids as young as 3 years old and 95cm minimum height to ride if accompanied by an adult.

Wizard Of Oz Shows and Characters

Be sure not to miss the Wizard Of Oz precinct daily shows! We got to see the beautiful Glinda The Good Witch singing as we emerged from the rides. Later in the day we returned to see Dorothy singing Somewhere Over The Rainbow – it was so magical, and a must for Wizard Of Oz fans!

Where can you meet the Wizard Of Oz Characters?

You even get to meet The Wizard Of Oz Characters in person! They appear at different times throughout the day inside the Wizard Of Oz precinct. There you can meet and take photos with them. We loved meeting Glinda the Good Witch and Dorothy! We even heard the Wicked Witch was lurking around somewhere…

Movie World Main Street additions

We left the Wizard Of Oz precinct to venture down Movie World Main Street and discovered still-more Wizard Of Oz delights!

Wizard Of Oz 4-D Experience – now showing at the Roxy Cinema

The Wizard Of Oz movie first played in Cinemas in 1936 and is now revisited at Warner Bros Movie World!

The Movie World Roxy Cinema has a Wizard Of Oz 4-D Experience feature showing right now, and it’s the perfectly condensed version of the original movie. The fact that is shown in 4-D is such a bonus! With several showtimes each day, all the best parts of the film are included to help introduce newbies to the story, and also let fans relive this wonderful classic film once again.

The Wizard Of Oz 4-D Experience attraction would make for the perfect start or end to your Movie World Wizard Of Oz visit.

Wizard Of Oz Snacks

Try these Wizard Of Oz Signature Drinks!

Not only did we find rainbow lollypops in the Wizard of Oz gift store on Main Street, we were excited to find that there are also two delicious new Wizard Of Oz signature themed drinks available at the nearby cafe too!

The Tin Heart Delight themed drink

The Tin Heart Delight is priced at $8 and is a delicious chocolate drink topped with whipped cream, silver “tin” sprinkles and a red foil covered chocolate heart. It’s described as “a decadent blend of smooth chocolate and raspberry topped with a sweet heart symbolising the Tin Man’s wish”. One serving suggestion is to add coffee for a bold twist for an extra $1. We also bought a special Dorothy character straw for an extra $3 as a take-home souvenir – adorable!

The Kansas Caramel Swirl themed drink

The Kansas Caramel Swirl is priced at $8 and is a scrumptious caramel drink topped with whipped cream and candy corn. It’s described as “dreamy caramel frappe topped with a sprinkle of candy corn magic”. An extra serving suggestion is to add an espresso shot for $1. We also bought a special Tin Man character straw for an extra $3 as a take-home souvenir – so cute!

Where can I buy Wizard Of Oz Merchandise?

The dedicated Wizard Of Oz gift shop is something for fans to get very excited about! The most amazing Wizard Of Oz collection of trinkets, gifts, clothing and everything in between are inside for purchase!

Wonderful character jackets (including a fabulous Wicked Witch of the West one!), t-shirts, caps, capes, ornaments, bags – there was even a perfect replica of the Wicked Witch of the West’s Hourglass from the film for sale!

There’s something perfect inside the Wizard Of Oz shop for everyone to take home a unique souvenir of their own visit to Movie World’s Wizard Of Oz land.

We had such a fun time exploring the new The Wizard of Oz area at Warner Bros Movie World. Best of all, we made some wonderful new family holiday memories together – we truly can’t wait to return to the Gold Coast to do it all again!

10:00am – Park opens. We arrive, park, and enter to explore and plan our day!

10:40am – Photo opportunity with Dreamworld characters on Main Street – mascots Kenny & Belinda Koalas plus Cooee The Gumnut Fairy!

Kenny & Belinda’s Dreamland

Attraction – Wonderland Theatre

11:00am – Head to Kenny & Belinda’s Dreamland to the Wonderland Theatre for a Wiggle Show.

Tip – Wiggles characters were available for photo opportunities just prior to the Wiggles Show!

NEW – Rivertown

11:09am – Proceed to the new Rivertown precinct to explore the new Rivertown General Store, Jane’s Restaurant and ride the two new rides.

Tip – there are really friendly turtles at the riverside!

NEW – Ride – Murrissippi Motors

11:17am – Ride – Murrissippi Motors – Wait Time 0 minutes – all ages family ride (no children to be held on laps).

Murrissippi Motors is a slow-moving vintage car carriage track ride which you control the speed of via an accelerator pedal. During the ride you will enjoy passing along an exciting jungle-themed trail.

NEW – Ride – Jungle Rush

11:30am – Ride – Jungle Rush family friendly roller coaster – Wait Time 15 minutes – minimum height 95cm (accompanied)

Jungle Rush is unlike any other roller coasters we’ve ever ridden. We were delighted to be surprised by its triple-switch turntable function – it was quite unexpected and very exciting!

Not just that, but also this ride’s forward and reverse features only add to the fun of this adventure-filled roller coaster. Jungle Rush is an exciting new addition to Dreamworld amusement park, and definitely a don’t-miss!

Corroboree & Australian Wildlife

11:43am – Walk through Rivertown and continue on to Corroboree and Australian WILDLIFE, viewing Cassowaries along the way. We loved exploring the Corroboree area. There were roaming Kangaroos to pet and you could even view Koalas close-up. Corroboree also offers paid Koala meet experiences and photo opportunities.

After exploring the Bilby Burrow and several other native animal areas, we decided to catch the train back to the central Dreamworld area to do some more rides!

Ride – Dreamworld Express

12:30pm – Ride – Dreamworld Express – Departs every 20 minutes – all ages family ride – accessible.

Depart Corroboree Station aboard the Dreamworld Express, a gentle, family friendly mini train ride.

The Dreamworld Express is an open sided mini train with small, gated sections with wooden bench seats and room for prams and wheelchairs. This cute little red engine train is a great way to give your legs a rest and enjoy a lovely sight-seeing ride through peaceful wildlife areas of the park.

Main Street

12:37pm – Arrive at Central Park Station and alight the train. Walk down to the Moto Coaster ride.

Ride – Moto Coaster

12:44pm – Ride – Moto Coaster – Wait time 0 minutes – Minimum side car height 110cm – accessible

The Moto Coaster is a fairly level, breathtakingly fast curving motorcycle-style roller coaster. You sit astride the motorcycle and lean forward as a firm harness clicks down. There are some side cars which younger family members have the option to ride in. All lose items need to be left in the spinning shelves.

12:51pm – We leave the Moto Coaster for a walk up through main street past an ice cream parlour and Green Bean Coffee cafe to Fairytale Treasures.

1:00pm – We head inside our favourite Fairy Shop, Fairytale Treasures for a quick look. This is a delightful shop full of little girl’s fairy and princess dresses, unicorn plushies and lots of cute fairy-themed items.

We leave Fairytale Treasures to walk to the Steel Taipan ride.

Ride – Steel Taipan

1:11pm – Ride – Steel Taipan – Wait time 0 minutes – 130cm height minimum

Hitting speeds of 105kms and heights of up to 39 metres, the Steel Taipan roller coaster is not for the faint-hearted – but it’s a really thrilling ride!

You can even pay extra to ride the 360-degree spinning rear seats if you’re game. This coaster’s G-force is rated at 3.8.

1:16pm – We leave the Steel Taipan to walk back over to Kenny & Belinda’s Dreamland

The ride Sky Voyager was closed for maintenance.

Back to Kenny & Belinda’s Dreamland

There are several family rides in this area including Belinda’s Tree House, Bananas In Pyjamas Maze, Bananas In Pyjamas Carousel, Play School Wheel, Big Red Planes and Humpty-Go-Round. 

Ride – Kenny’s Forest Flyer

1:38pm – Ride – Kenny’s Forest Flyer – family friendly roller coaster – Waiting Time 10 minutes – minimum accompanied height 110cm

Kenny’s Forest Flyer is a fun, tree-themed suspended roller coaster, popular with families and children. It climbs up to the 14.9m top them plunges, rolls and curves its way up to speeds of 41.8kmph back down to the bottom. It rates a G-force of 2.2.

1:44pm – Walk to the next coaster, the Big Red Boat.

Ride – The Wiggles The Big Red Boat

1:51pm – Ride – The Wiggles Big Red Boat – Children’s roller coaster – minimum height 90cm (accompanied)

The Big Red Boat is a fun, low set roller coaster designed for young families.

1:56pm – Walk over to the Serpent Slayer ride.

Ocean Parade

There is also Sea Bed Splash and Deep Sea Dogems in this area.

Ride – Serpent Slayer

2:02pm – Ride – Serpent Slayer – swinging thrill ride – minimum height 120cm

The Serpent Slayer is a high-thrill swinging ride with side-to-side carriages or Wild Side carriages which flip upside down – you choose which one. The G-force rating is 3.9.

The Tail Spin ride was closed for maintenance.

Attraction – Tiger Island

2:08pm – Walk to Tiger Island, walk through the shop and view the relaxing Tigers on our way to lunch at Jane’s Restaurant. Tiger Island hosts a great Tiger show, but this trip we unfortunately missed it. It’s definitely worth factoring into your Dreamworld day if you can!

Back to Rivertown

NEW – Restaurant – Janes Restaurant

2:20pm – Janes Restaurant for lunch, Rivertown.

A gorgeous retro-styled restaurant, jungle-themed with big-band golden oldies playing. There are the most fascinating animal animatronics such as birds, monkeys, snakes and other forest animals. Tasty, quickly-served meals, snacks and drinks.

2:50pm – Head over to Ocean Parade to ride Shock Wave

Back to Ocean Parade

Ride – Shock Wave

3:00pm – Ride – Shock Wave – minimum height 120cm

A seated, rolling, rotating ride, Shock Wave is a mid-thrill ride which is always a fun to experience. With its 2.5 G-force rating it’s suitable for kids to enjoy too.

3:10pm – We head to the Gold Coaster ride

Ride – Gold Coaster

3:16pm – Ride – Gold Coaster roller coaster with twin loops – minimum age 10, minimum height 120cms

The Gold Coaster is a high thrills exciting roller coaster ride with an initial high climb, two loop-the-loops, a top speed of 75kmph and a G-force rating of 3.0. It’s a super fast coaster for the thrill seekers in the family!

3:21pm – We head back over to Main Street for our last ride for the day, The Giant Drop.

Main Street

Ride – The Giant Drop

3:38pm – Ride – The Giant Drop – free-fall ride – minimum age 10 – minimum height 120cms

The Giant Drop is a suspenseful slow climb ride up 119 metres offering spectacular views over the Gold Coast. Followed by a free fall back down 39 stories at speeds of up to 135kmph – it’s a heart-stopping ride, and very thrilling! A hit for the bravest thrill seekers in the family!

3:43pm – We decided to take a final walk back towards the Wildlife area to see dingos and emus we had passed on the train.

3:54pm – A quick visit to the lolly shop before we leave for the day!

4:00pm – A look through the Lego Shop last thing and then exit Dreamworld

I hope our 1 day Dreamworld Itinerary helps you to plan your own day at Dreamworld, so that you can have just as much fun as we did!

Don’t be afraid to mix it up to suit your family. As my girls are teenagers, we hit all the big thrill rides, but it would be just as easy to swap them out and substitute them with the smaller child attractions – and pop in some more snack and nap breaks too.
