We were so excited to be invited to take a special media preview look at the new store, and we certainly weren’t disappointed!

Parents, prepare to empty your wallet into the cash register, because your children (and you!) are going to love so much in this store!

Today is the grand opening day, and we’ve already heard that people are queued up to get in!

LEGO® collectors of Canberra – rejoice!

One thing is for sure about LEGO® – it isn’t just for kids – there’s a lot of adult LEGO enthusiasts and collectors out there! And yep, my family are LEGO lovers from way back! We were lucky enough to be invited to do a Visit California famil trip last year and were hosted at LEGOLAND California and got to stay in the LEGOLAND Castle hotel. And of course we’ve been to the wonderful LEGOLAND Melbourne too. We are also avid watchers of LEGO Masters. So you can bet we were super-eager to see the new LEGO store in Canberra – our local stomping ground!

All LEGO fans are catered to in the new Canberra store, as there are some incredibly technical and huge LEGO® sets here on offer. From Star Wars ships to a massive Disney Castle, there’s a lot to unpack here!

Everywhere you wander, LEGO® staff are on hand to help you out with questions and information about the different sets on offer.

Fun LEGO® statues and installations in-store

Not just any ordinary toy shop, the new Canberra LEGO Store encourages interaction and hands-on fun!

Kangaroo Selfie LEGO Girl

The first thing that you notice when you enter the new LEGO store in Canberra is the huge Kangaroo and LEGO girl taking a selfie together.

This fabulous construction was made by Ryan McNought (AKA “The Brickman”), with 87,173 lego bricks and took 394 hours!

The Kangaroo Selfie Girl is an awesome spot to “do it for the gram” and get an Instagram selfie right along with them – we had to do this immediately of course – so fun!

There are lots of LEGO installations scattered around this large new store – it’s a real adventure just to wander around!

Brickman Black Mountain Tower Canberra Mosaic

Not to be missed is the incredible mosaic covering a pillar towards the rear of the store. Also built by The Brickman Ryan McNought, this beautiful LEGO mosaic was inspired by a photograph taken by local artist Erna Glassford.

The artwork features Black Mountain Tower surrounded by hot air balloons drifting over from Lake Burley Griffin. It’s such an iconic Canberra image art work!

Interactive Digital Box screen

An interactive Digital Box screen is installed on one wall which allows users to stand on a feet-sticker on the floor to make LEGO® sets come to life!

LEGO® Play Table

There’s a fun play table for the kids to build their own dream DUPLO designs in-store! With a huge range of DUPLO sets available in the new store, this larger, easier to use LEGO for smaller hands makes the perfect gift for toddlers and preschoolers.

It’s here also that you’ll find the popular LEGO City and Ninjago sets, with the huge LEGO Friends range just a few steps away in the next section.

Build a Minifigure™ Station

Yes LEGO fans, you can even build your own LEGO Minifigure here with a special minifig station!

Put together your very own LEGO mini figure creation. Choose a head, hair, top and bottom, and add your favourite accessories of course! It doesn’t get much more LEGO fun than that! Build three minifigures for $19.99.

 If you’re scratching your head for Christmas gift ideas for the little ones, then we have you covered – the Peppa Pig Holiday DVD and toy range!

It’s easy to see why the new Bratz Dolls are so popular with young girls. – bright, colourful, funky and fun, Bratz dolls are strong female characters that really appeal to kids…

My daughters, 8 year old Samantha and 9 year old Brooke, were lucky enough to receive two of the new-range of Bratz dolls in the mail this week to review. A task they eagerly took on with relish – already, these funky little dolls have caused quite a lot of excitement at our house!

Brooke’s doll, Jade, has a shock of long, luxurious dark hair and is dressed in stylish work-out clothes – she’s the #fiercefitness sports theme Jade Bratz doll model, empowering little girs to be strong and outgoing thanks to the range of #hashtag expressions that come along with her. Jade is labelled with positive inspiration, encouraging Brooke to bring out her “fierceness”, and daring her to “run like a girl” – whilst still being a trendsetter, of course!

As a mother, I love this aspect of Bratz dolls. These are the messages our young girls need to hear to help build self-confidence  – it’s great to finally see toys reinforcing this  – I like to think that subconsciously these positive mantras might just sink in!

In addition to the hash-tag messages, Brooke loves her Bratz doll’s daring fashion sense. The Bratz Jade doll features a punk flair, with coloured – even shaved – hair, and bold brash clothing styles! Brooke, at 9, is starting to appreciate more edgy styles.

Samantha’s Bratz doll choice was the Bratz “Hello My Name is” Cloe Doll, a super-glam and ultra-fashionable character with flowing blonde hair styled with a cute topknot. Denim, frills and glitter are her signature style, but she’s not just about the look – Cloe also loves to play soccer, and “sports” some high-fashion soccer boots…to-boot!

Cloe is funky and fashionable – but ready to get down and dirty on the sports field, and Samantha finds this pink-cutesy-crossed-with-sporty combination really appealing – Cloe is just like her!

But from the moment the kids spied their dolls, it was very clear to see that really, playing with Bratz dolls is all about the accessories! The Bratz #fiercefitness Jade doll comes with a hairbrush shaped like a pair of lips (of course!), a large sling-type carry-all bag, water bottle, watch, ipod with ear buds and exercise headband.

The Bratz “Hello my name is” Cloe doll comes with her own special set of accessories too – a backpack that actually opens and stores things, lips hairbrush, pot of yoghurt, heart-shaped sunglasses, cute necklace and bow headband.

With all these cute and funky accessories, the girls spent hours interchanging clothes, accessories and feet – Bratz dolls feet snap off – no more lost teeny-tiny shoes going up the vacuum cleaner! Story after story was created by the girls – Bratz dolls certainly inspire creativity through imaginative play. There’s even a Bratz app now available!

The actual construction of these dolls has a solid, good quality feel to it – weighty yet flexible vinyl allows for doll-cuddling and squeezing of clothes and accessories on and off over and over again without worrying about limbs or heads breaking off where they shouldn’t!

As I speak the girls are still enchanted with this toy, and play with it daily. Bloco construction toys are just brilliant, because they are not just a toy to play with, but a toy that challenges children to use their brains while they are having fun – and the end result toys are super-cute, too! Bright and colourful and with so many ways to interchange pieces, these engaging animal characters go way beyond a one-dimensional toy that quickly bore children. Brooke set to work making herself a cat and managed to sort out the set, read the instructions and

build the toys completely unassisted, with Samantha getting a little assistance from mum to construct her horses and unicorns. Bloco toy pieces fit together using a simple connector system. It’s really quite clever, as it allows the finished toys to be moveable, pose-able – and completely play-able! Constructed of quality materials, Bloco toy pieces are made of a soft, tactile foam-rubber that is great for little-kid fingers to pull apart and put back together. It’s extremely durable too – at only 6, Samantha is less dexterous than her big sister, yet no matter how much she stretched and pulled the pieces out of the base sheets, they didn’t tear, and still fit back together beautifully. The recommended age range for Bloco building sets is 6 to 12 years, and I’d say that these toys would easily suit these ages by a comfortable margin. It was clear that the kids were having a

ball building their creations, and were delighted with the results of their efforts – some very cute new toys! And if you’re wondering if the fun ends after the toy is built – well, no – certainly not yet! Once built, my girls took their Blocos straight outside into the garden to play, and they even sleep with them at night! Brooke’s cat regularly has it’s little pink slippers and bows put on and off and it gets it’s foam bowl of milk at night. Samantha’s horses and unicorns go everywhere with her, and suffer through numerous accessory and heart decoration colour changes! There are some fabulous Bloco sets available, ranging from colourful  zoo animals to huge dinosaurs, and they make such a great alternative to a more simple run-of-the-mill toy. These would delight kids for birthdays or Christmas because they are just so appealing, fun, and challenging for children to think and build in an achievable way, with an awesome toy as a reward at the end!
