Junee Chocolate & Licorice Factory, NSW

If you love chocolate then we’ve found a delicious little Chocolate Factory off the beaten track that’s well-worth the detour!

We came across the Junee Licorice and Chocolate Factory on our most recent NSW back-roads road trip – and what a lovely surprise it was!

Housed over two levels in an old flour mill, this historical brick building is located within the town of Junee, NSW.

Junee is just two and a half hours drive from Canberra, and four hours and forty minutes drive from Sydney.

We had no idea that there was a Junee Chocolate Factory at all until we spotted the brown tourist signs as we approached the town!

This grand old building is a charming place to visit, and although the chocolate factory was unknown to us – it certainly wasn’t to others!

We visited on a weekend, and the Chocolate Factory was bustling with people both in the large cafe indoor and outdoor areas – and in the chocolate and Licorice shops on the ground floor too.

All sorts of specialty licorice and chocolates were available to purchase, and it was good value and excellent quality.

We explored still further inside to find a fairy-light lit, cavernous room – “Hall of de Fame”. Inside there was more dining space, and a wooden staircase off to one side. It lead up to a sprawling gift shop on the second level.

Up we went to poke through the shop. We discovered there was a large kitchen knick-knack shop with everything you could think of for the kitchen. We bought some cute china egg cups and a couple of trinket boxes to take home with us.

The kitchen store area branched into a more general gift shop brimming with local wares, decorative gifts and a fascinating array of certified antiques.

Our fragile purchases bound up into parcels, and suitably stocked up with chocolate, we made our way out.  As we left I knew we had lost an hour or so on this unscheduled stop that we should have used on the road – but half the fun of road trips are those unexpected stops at unusual and fun places – aren’t they?!

The Junee Chocolate Shop is a great NSW small town treasure to detour towards on your next NSW road trip.
