If you’re looking for a family-friendly luxury hotel in the Hills District of Sydney, the Rouse Hill Mercure is a convenient and comfortable accommodation option.

We took a trip out to the Hills District of Sydney and decided to stay in a hotel there as a base for the area, as it is an hour’s drive in the heavy Sydney traffic. Whilst this particular Sydney Mercure restaurant was the only hotel choice in the suburb of Rouse Hill, it did prove to be a great choice for a comfortable and convenient stay.

Whilst not a large four and a half star hotel, the Mercure Rouse Hill, an Accor group hotel, has a more boutique hotel feel. The hotel has a small but welcoming reception and lounge area, offering lounge seating and a big screen tv.

With 24 hour check in, there’s no need to worry if you are going to arrive late to the hotel.

At first glance it would appear that the entrance to the hotel is directly from the busy Windsor Road which the hotel fronts, however access at the rear, via the carpark behind it. This is accessed through the Fiddler Hotel carpark entrance on Commercial Road. Parking is free, which makes a nice change for Sydney where hotel parking can often cost you another 30%-40% of your hotel room charge!

How much does a Mercure hotel suite cost?

As two people are the maximum number of adults allowed in one hotel room at the Sydney Mecure Rouse Hill, and children are classed as aged up to 12, my teenagers and I needed to book a suite for our family of three. We were charged an extra $50 to upgrade from a single hotel room to a one bedroom suite, bringing our room total price to $289 for a mid-week stay, which I thought was quite reasonable.

A personal, business traveler or family suite

Our suite comprised of three separate rooms. A bedroom, the lounge room and a bathroom.

The suite bedroom featured a large king-size bed bedroom, and the suite was adapted to fit three people by making up the pull out sofa bed in the lounge room. There was a short hall with a double wardrobe leading to the bedroom with one large bathroom/ en-suite off of the hall, opposite the bedroom. A large flat screen tv presides over the lounge room, and a smaller tv is in the bedroom. There is a small dining table in the lounge and numerous sitting and lounge chairs scattered around the suite.

Stylish room design & furnishings

Our entire suite was horse themed, as-in the “Old West” style, but in a very stylish way. A carriage light served as a bedside light, a side table was reminiscent of a cow or leather hide barrel – chairs were leatherette, throw pillows too and the walls sported horse, or a collage of carriage prints. Other throw pillows had horses racing across the bottom of them! It’s an elegant-meets-unusual hotel room styling theme that somehow works beautifully – and it isn’t the boring old white bed, white walls and metal table approach you often find in other hotels.

A large and luxurious bathroom – with a bath!

The bathroom was large and luxurious. It featured a modular, stand-alone bath – especially handy for those who need some relax time at the end of a long day, or for parents of babies and toddlers. A double vanity with large, well-lit mirrors and a double shower provided plenty of room for everyone, and there were ample thick bath towels supplied.

Power up those laptops, ipads and phones!

Including the bathroom ensuite, power points were scattered throughout the suite to service all those electrical devices that both business travellers and families simply can’t travel without now – especially when travelling with teenagers! Power points were also conveniently located either side of the beds.

Mecure Sydney hotel room four and a half star quality

With all the standard luxury features you would expect for the hotel room price point of almost $300, the Sydney Mercure offered sparklingly clean rooms and effective, controllable climate control. The beds, including the pull-out sofa bed were all very comfortable with good quality bedding. Although the hotel fronts the Windsor Road, the noise was barely discernable even though we were on the first floor, so room soundproofing is effective. Our room looked over a small balcony, straight over to Windsor Road.

Amenities and extras – what’s included in your Mercure Sydney hotel room

Good bathroom amenities such as shampoo, conditioner and shower gel are included. There were ample tea and coffee supplies with a capsule coffee maker, a mini bar fridge stocked with soft drinks and a chocolate bar (for an extra charge), a lockable personal safe, and an ironing board and iron.

The Mercure hotel swimming pool, whilst always a welcome addition for families or active business travelers, is directly off Reception, and so in view of the Reception lounge on the ground floor. It is a compact and narrow pool – perhaps more lending itself to a short lap pool rather than a family fun area. That said, it would be a welcome relief on a hot West Sydney summer’s day!

The hotel also features a personal fitness gym, located on the first floor.

Centrally located, the Sydney Mercure Rouse Hill is perfectly located for Hills District business, fun and activities. The hotel makes a good base for the nearby Rouse Hill shopping precinct, which houses several large chain stores such as Big W.

The Sydney Mercure hotel breakfast is currently (February 2022) an additional $19 per person, and breakfast is offered at The Fiddler Hotel directly opposite.

Fast food outlets such as McDonalds and Red Rooster are five minutes walk down the road, although you do need to circumnavigate the hotel on foot, or drive out and around to get to Windsor Road where they are located.
