What is the Oceano Restaurant like?
The Oceano is a Sea-themed restaurant offering a variety of dining options. It’s main feature is an attached, exclusive outdoor balcony facing the DisneySea Harbour. This affords an excellent view of the boat character greeting parades during the day and one of the best views of the famous Believe! Sea of Dreams show at night.
This Tokyo Disney Resort visit my family had at dinner at the DisneySea MiraCosta Oceano Buffet Restaurant. This is my Oceano Restaurant review.

Do you need DisneySea tickets to watch the show from the Oceano balcony?
No, you don’t need Tokyo DisneySea tickets to watch any of DisneySea’s show from the Oceano – it’s like a little cheat way of enjoying Disney Sea without a ticket!
Can you book a Tokyo Disney Hotel restaurant if you aren’t staying at the hotel?
Yes – well, most of the time you can! Even though the Oceano Restaurant is located within the Disney MiraCosta Hotel, you don’t need to be a staying guest to book a meal there. This is the same for all of the Tokyo Disney restaurants, with the exception of the Tokyo Disney Resort’s Toy Story Hotel and Fantasy Springs Hotel.
How do you book the Oceano Restaurant?
Whilst anyone can book to eat at the Oceano, it’s rare that you can make a late dinner booking. Reservations are required and often secured several months in advance.
If you hold a Vacation Package or other Tokyo Disney Hotel accommodation booking then you are given the bonus opportunity to book Tokyo Disney Hotel restaurants earlier than the general public, as you can see in my explainer video here .
I had been trying to book the Oceano restaurant for over a year unsuccessfully. This was despite staying at the Hotel MiraCosta, but without a Vacation Package. Due to its popularity, the Oceano restaurant had always been booked-out by Vacation Package guests prior, as they receive the earliest access.
I finally managed to reserve dinner at the Oceano Restaurant last-minute by enquiring at the restaurant in person on the same day. We had tried this before, however this time we were lucky – there was a dinner reservation available!

How long can you stay at the Oceano Restaurant?
There is a two-hour limit for dinner at the Oceano Restaurant. An hour is ample time to enjoy a leisurely buffet dinner at the Oceano. You are seated and then are free to select dishes from the all-you-can-eat buffet.
What time should I make an Oceano dinner reservation to see the night show?
Our Oceano booking was for 6:30pm which worked perfectly for us. A 6pm time slot would also work well. The Believe! Sea of Dreams show starts at 7:30pm and lasts for half an hour, finishing at 8pm. That is just enough time to not exceed your maximum two hours restaurant limit.
What is dining at the MiraCosta Oceano Restaurant like?
The Oceano is split into three ocean-themed sections featuring decorations such as shells and water. There are two seating areas for buffet diners and one sit-down dining service area.
The sit-down dining area gets first access to the Oceano balcony to watch Believe! Sea of Dreams Disney Sea night show. The Buffet dining guests queue after the sit down dining guests have already entered the balcony to take their place, however there is just enough room for all diners on the balcony. Everyone looked to have an unobstructed view of the night show thanks to the three standing-room only tiers.
What is the food like at the Oceano Buffet?
There was a good range of different hot and cold food as well as plenty of dessert choices at the Oceano Buffet restaurant.
The buffet food selections included a range of creative seafood-themed dishes such as Pasta Paella – Oceano Style, `scallops, clams and fish. A chef’s roast carvery featured different roast meats. Pork, chicken and beef dishes are also available from the buffet, plus vegetarian options too. Pastas, chowders & other soups, and a variety of seasonal vegetables, salads and breads were available.
Children’s favourites were also on offer such as fried finger food including fried chicken, chips, fried cheese potatoes and there was plenty of fresh fruit. Dessert choices were fun and colourful, including the Duffy and Friends new Spring-themed “Come Find Spring” desserts and cake. There was also bowls of chocolate gold coins and lollies to keep the kids happy!
Is Oceano a Japanese restaurant?
Whilst the Oceano Restaurant is located in Japan, it definitely has plenty of Western food options! All food is labelled with both Japanese and English labels, so that you know what you’re choosing – even if you don’t speak Japanese!
Staff speak English and the Oceano atmosphere is warm and welcoming.
Do they serve alcoholic drinks at DisneySea restaurants?
Yes. Oceano Restaurant offered free water and soft drinks. Specialty drinks and an alcoholic drink menu were available at an extra cost.
We ordered a non-alcoholic Duffy Springtime Celebration drink which tasted a bit like lemonade!
Where is the best place to watch DisneySea Believe! Sea of Dreams show?
The MiraCosta Oceano Restaurant Balcony. We have also watched the Believe! Sea of Dreams show from several vantage points around the Harbour. We have also paid for DisneySea Priority Access for Believe! Sea of Dreams paid seating in the past. Even with Premier Access, we had to arrive two hours early, sit flat on the ground behind the Vacation Package folk and it was still really difficult to see anything below boat-deck level. No matter where you are watching the show you are constantly screwing your neck around to watch the projections on the buildings behind you, the volcano or the Harbour.
The Oceano Restaurant Balcony was fantastic to watch the show as an overall spectacle overview. You are up out of the crowds and having a lovely dinner right up until showtime. The Oceano’s balcony view encompassed the Volcano, Harbour and building projections making it easy to take it all in with with a simple scan from left to right – with the main action on the Harbour unfolding in front of you. It’s one of the most elevated, close points to the Mediterranean Harbour that there is, and a genuine contender for the best view of the DisneySea night show.
What is the Oceano Balcony like?
The Oceano Balcony is actually a three-tiered balcony of different levels. This is so that those standing behind can see over the heads of the people in the front rows. The front balustrade is high and solid, so shorter people or children would most likely benefit from standing on the raised levels behind.
There was no pushing or roughness of the restaurant patrons. Just a quick moving out onto the balcony. We were last in line and ended up at the front. Whilst not in an optimal spot we could all see the whole show very well.
What happens at show time?
The Oceano wait staff will announce at around 7:20pm that patrons can now queue to walk onto the balcony in single file. Locals know the drill and jump up quickly to get in line! We ended up at the back of the queue of approximately twelve people from our area of the buffet restaurant.
As we filed past the dine-in table service area I noticed that those diners had already gone out onto the balcony. This is an advantage, but in the end there was just enough room for everyone on the Oceano Balcony.
How much does dinner at the Oceano Restaurant cost?
Our dinner for three adults and one Duffy specialty non-alcoholic drink cost 21,600 Japanese yen – this currently exchanges to $202 AUD or $137 USD.
