Is Universal Studios Hollywood worth it?
Yes, it’s absolutely worth visiting Universal Studios Hollywood!
Universal Studios Hollywood is one of the most visited places in Los Angeles. It’s an essential California theme park which is popular with both tourists and locals – because there is so much to experience there!
The World-Famous Studio Tour is incredible – an absolute don’t miss. There’s lots of incredible rides, themed restaurants and fun character meet-and-greet opportunities throughout its several world-class themed areas.
During your day you can explore exciting lands such as The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, The Simpson’s town of Springfield, Minion Land, Jurassic World, Transformers Metrobase and the new Super Nintendo World – one of only two in the world!
All of this and more make a trip to the Universal Studios Hollywood a very special experience that shouldn’t be missed!

The brand-new Super Nintendo World themed land is now open at Universal Studios Hollywood! This exciting new world is full of fun, and is home to the amazing new ride Mario Kart. You can buy a wristband to collect coins and there are various fun challenges to try.
Super popular to boot, you’ll need to reserve a time to visit Super Nintendo World first thing in the morning – or you can just purchase a Klook Universal Express Pass which gives you access once at anytime during the day! If you don’t have a Universal Express pass, make sure you reserve your spot as soon as possible in the morning, as it books up fast on busy days!
What are the best rides at Universal Studios?
Here is a list of the best rides at Universal Studios Hollywood – and why we think that they shouldn’t be missed during your Universal Studios Hollywood visit.
Note – for this list I’m not counting the The World-Famous Studio Tour, although strictly speaking it is a ride – with two rides within it – King Kong 360 3D, and the Fast and the Furious – Supercharged. The World-Famous Studio Tour is an absolute essential ride to do during your visit.
- Jurassic World – The Ride – a fascinating, slow but eventually thrilling boat ride through Jurassic World. There are dinosaurs galore, some of them get very threatening, but it’s all good fun. With its massive tank effects near the start and high flume-style drop, we think this Universal Studios Hollywood version is one of the best Jurassic boat rides in the world. Prepare to get a little wet!
- Mario Kart™: Bowser’s Challenge – like stepping into a real-live video game, put on high tech goggles to fully immerse into this kart race. With no express pass option, this new and popular ride may have it’s eager fans waiting in line for around two hours – a testament to how fun it is!
- Revenge of the Mummy – The Ride – high velocity thrills, fire and scares in a dark ride rollercoaster with sudden starts and stops – this Universal Studios Hollywood version is unique, in that it sends you through a scary volley of Mummy monsters – then puts you through it all again in reverse! Great fun.
- Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey – enter through Hogwarts castle to board your carriage. This is a beautiful flying experience with some scary bits thanks to the Dementors and Whomping Willow – mostly this a lovely nostalgic experience as you watch the beloved Harry Potter characters brought to life once more.
- TRANSFORMERS: The Ride-3D – a really fun ride, but be prepared for lots of stops, starts and sudden movements! Climb aboard and hang on as you avoid getting pulverized by fighting Autobots from the planet Cybertron. A top ride experience.
Other great rides at Universal Studios include:
- Despicable Me Minion Mayhem – indoor theatre-type little kids friendly ride
- Flight of the Hippogriff™ – medium thrills roller coaster – kid friendly
- Silly Swirly Fun Ride – rotating carriage ride – kid friendly
- The Secret Life of Pets: Off The Leash – a charming and fun slow track ride – little kids friendly
- The Simpsons Ride™ – theatre type experience with 3D screen – little kids friendly

Which Universal Studios Hollywood tickets should I choose?
2-Day Admission “Buy A Day, Get A 2nd Day Free”
(Non US residents tickets) This great deal gets you two full days to go wild at Universal Studios Hollywood!
Universal Express
(Non US residents tickets) A fast pass ticket to skip the ride lines! I highly recommend this choice if you only have one day to visit, because queueing for rides can be time consuming. This choice gives you an admission ticket and an express pass which you can use one time for each of the listed rides. (Does not include Mario Kart)
VIP Experience
A very exciting package of admission plus a tour guide, an unlimited ride express pass, valet parking with VIP entry, access to an exclusive VIP lounge with breakfast and a gourmet meal in a private VIP dining room plus exclusive Backlot Access during the a special studio tour where you even get to get out to explore (the normal studio tour doesn’t allow this).
Hollywood Plus Pass-3 Attractions Non Peak and Peak
These two choices offer admission to Universal Studios Hollywood plus you can choose from two other exciting LA attractions. Check the list for a full list of attractions and the peak and off-peak dates which affect pricing.
Can I cancel my Klook tickets if I change my mind?
Yes, these tickets are fully refundable (Provided they aren’t expired or have been partially used).
How do you skip the long Universal Studios Hollywood ticket queues?
Your digital tickets will always be with you if you to download the Klook app – under Account – Bookings you’ll find every Klook attraction ticket you’ve purchased! Simply click on “View Voucher” to access your scannable QR bar code – and you can add them to your Apple Wallet too!
As long as you have your phone with you, you have your entry tickets to every attraction you’ve bought tickets to on Klook – and that’s peace of mind!
Does Universal Studios Hollywood have ride Express Passes?
Yes, just buy the Universal Express Klook ticket for both admission and an express pass that will get you to the front of the line for each ride once (excepting Mario Kart which has no express lane)
Is it worth buying a Universal Studios Hollywood Express Pass?
Yes. Time is precious when you only have a limited time at the big California theme parks. You’re there for a good time, not a long time and you don’t want to spend hours waiting in ride queues if you don’t have to. So it makes good sense to purchase the express ride option and save queueing time. That way you’ll have more free time to do the other rides or see shows that you wouldn’t want to otherwise miss!
Download the Universal Japan App
In preparation for your days at Universal Studios Hollywood, download the Universal Studios Hollywood App before you go at the App Store or Google Play.
The Universal Studios Hollywood App is useful to make the most of your visit. You can set a tailored itinerary for the day, check ride wait times, event times and there’s a navigation map feature that guides you around the park to rides, shows, attractions and more.
How many days do you need at Universal Studios Hollywood?
One day is usually enough. You need at least one full day to explore the Universal Studios Hollywood theme park.
An express pass is definitely an advantage to save time in the park, or alternatively two days without an express pass is a more comfortable time period to explore Universal Studios Hollywood thoroughly and enjoy all it has to offer.
Can you do Universal Studios Hollywood in one day?
Yes. You can do Universal Studios Hollywood in one day with a Universal Express pass if you want to do all the main rides and attractions, or without a Universal Express pass if you would like to do most of the main rides and attractions.
Universal Studios Hollywood meals and snacks
You won’t go hungry – or thirsty for that matter – at Universal Studios Hollywood thanks to a plethora of themed restaurants, cafes, bars and snack outlets!
Churros, donuts, pretzels – all the classic theme park snacks are here. There are lots of really fun themed snacks to try, like this gigantic Lard Lad Donut we found in Springfield!
Even if you don’t eat it’s fun just to pop into the Kwik E Mart and Moes Tavern in Springfield for a look – or a Duff Beer! Moe and also the Love Tester machine is in Moe’s Tavern, just like in the Simpsons TV series. We all had a turn of course – ahem, I’m a Casanova, just for the record!
We loved eating lunch at the restaurant in Jurassic World where the meals look like they’ve been dragged out of a dino-swamp, but actually taste great! There was a cocktail bar outside serving some amazing looking themed drinks too.
Super Nintendo World has a restaurant all of its own – the Toadstool Cafe is so popular we weren’t even able to take a look inside, as it was booked out the day we visited.
Be sure to book the Toadstool Cafe early in the day if it’s busy and you want to eat there. But don’t worry if you don’t get in, because there are many more eateries all around the park to choose from!
